Yep, we took a day off after I got my buff because of some heavy drinking (I had a beer Saturday night to celebrate) and then Monday we took off for the Ume Camp for some fishing and to look for bushbuck.

Mike,

Is this one yours?

Great report ,Frank and CONGRATS for a great trophy !
I hunt with Pierre since 2008 and your story made me relive every moment of my dagga boy hunt in 2009.
I left Chifudze on May 11'th , after my associate shot a really nice elephant bull with Pierre. I know you guys had a great time in Ume as well ..
What's next for you ? I would reccomend a hippo and an elephant hunt with Pierre (i know my buff&hippo hunt was by far the best hunt i ever did ).Me,for sure, i will be back next year for a tuskless and a croc .

Congratulations Frank,
Great bull and story. Nothing like those old dagga boys with their bosses polished like mahogany.

Great story and an exciting hunt!

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Thanks again all.

I'll try to get the rest of the hunt report out soon but it'll read more like a tour guide after this experience.

I think that I'll hunt Buffalo again before trying anything else although Pierre tells me that tuskless hunting can get the adreneline pump working in overtime as well.

Now I just have to figure out how to get past Wifezilla's three year rule for Africa.

Great report that filled in the gaps. We were in Mackenzie camp chasing tuskless with bows and arrows and heard confirmation of your successful hunt via the camp grapevine (jungle drums??). We saw a magnificent bushbuck on the day we went to Charara which would have been a sitting duck for a rifle shot but there was no shot opportunity with my heavy poundage elephant rig and it's slow(relatively speaking) arrows. Your report has prompted me to get busy with mine. I'll have to ask the missus for help with typing!

Frank: Really appreciate you sharing the excitement of that hunt. What a fine bull! I don't mean in any way to disparage DRT one-shot kills, but the drama of a well-hit buffalo waiting on his back trail to kill you certainly enriches the experience, doesn't it?

Frank,

There is no finer experience than a running gun battle with a cranky old buffalo bull. I've had two gun battles like you described with buff one ended with one very nice charge in the Dande North back in 2004. The other was buff that soaked up a pile of .458 lott rounds in Tanzania before calling it quits.

When you get a bang-flop on a buff it's almost a let down.. Wink
