A couple things I failed to mention in the beginning of my report. Dates and area. We flew into camp on the 29th of Oct. hunted 14 days and flew out on the 13th of Nov. The Area was Kilwa central and Kilwa south. An open area as I understand, though we didn't see anybody else hunting during my trip. JD did have an interesting story of finding a very old man lost and out of water. they were sure he would not have made it if they hadn't come upon him.

A few other stories he related to me were of the buffalo calf stuck in the roots at the water hole that they released, and a pair of heartebeest stuck together fighting. JD kept saying, "when is that weird thing gonna happen on this safari"

Well, that turned out to be the killer hippo of Nakio! By day 6, I had killed a warthog and two buffalo. JD had mentioned a place that was worth the drive just to see it. As well as there would be a large group of hippos as well as the possibility of seeing a croc. So off we went for the day. Saw the hippos in a place right out of a Tarzan movie! Had a beer in a small village. Almost shot a nice bushbuck on the way home. when we got back to camp, another PH was there telling us about some problem hippo near the area we just came through. JD commented to bad we didn't know, we could gone in and helped to "sort it out"

Day 7, no more thoughts of the hippo, we headed out. Within an hour, the trackers spotted some Heartebeest that they thought were worth going after. After a short stalk, I saw them and before long I could tell which one was the one. After a couple more bumps, they finally settled down and I made the shot. so, back to camp.

When we arrive at camp, the news is that the hippo has killed one person and hurt another. JD looks at me and asks "do you want to go?" How could I not? So, quick lunch, off we and the other PH Patrick go. three hours, and several stops along the way to pick up people and get directions we arrive at a place on the river where all the locals are sure the hippo is hiding.

Yes, he was in there. JD had warned me that I might need to stay in the truck, or I might need to shoot a hippo, but safety was the priority. So when we arrive, there are now three game scouts, two PH's, me and a tracker holding rifles. Jd said things looked dangerous. I asked if he meant the hippo, or that many armed people, plus the gathering crowd? He just laughed, and said come with me. So the plan was that we would put people with rifles on each end of the cane patch(if that is what you call it), I would stay high up on the bank so I could see across the river, everybody else was going to make noise and throw things to scare it out. Just as JD was putting me where he wanted me (in a nice safe place) We heard a shot, shortly followed by another. then we see Hassan his tracker come out of the thick stuff, and a bg cheer from the crowd. He had took it on his own to go down and "sort it out" in this stuf
and this is the result

A few more of the resulting scene
As they say, all's well that ends well.

In the end, I had a fantastic time. I can't say enough good about the staff and my PH JD. also, I am grateful to all I have learned from the people her on AR. Things like, do your home work. ( this was the third discount hunt I had looked into) when I got the thumbs up from people I new and trusted I was good to go.
I was tempted to go with a bigger gun, but, over and over I read where PH's said bring a gun you can shoot well.
Create good communication with your PH. I made a serious commitment to be very clear about my expectation, as well as I was very keen to listen to exactly what JD was telling me.
And last but definitely not the least, Enjoy the hunt!
