I`ve almost decided to book a hunt with Larry McGillevie of Hunt and Tour Africa, situated in the Eastern Cape.
Anyone who`s hunted with him?
My PH will probably be Larry himself, or Russell Lovemore.
Experience with them?

I`ve been in contact with several references (including my brother) and they`re supposed to run a good operation.
Craig Boddington hunted there this year, so that might be a plus as well..

I can't comment on Larry, but a USA hunting show called "Hunting 101" had a series of shows in the past year featuring his operation in the East Cape. Looked good.

I hunted with Frontier Safaris in the East Cape in 2001. Russell Lovemore was a PH there at that time. I hunted with the owner but a friend of mine hunted with Russell. He was very pleased with Russell and I got to know Russell around the fire at night. I liked him and felt that he was one of the most competent Ph's there. We both had a good hunt.

Russell then went out on his own a year or so later, and my friend went back and hunted with him on the properties that he had developed. Once again, he had an excellent hunt with Russell.

I did not know Russell was in partnership or working with Larry but I have not kept in contact with him. Russell seems like a very conscientious and hard working PH. I think you would have a good hunt with him.

I hunted with Larry last year. The hunt was superb and I did not have one problem. The accomodations were wonderful. It was the best hunt I have ever been on. Larry guided a good friend of mine, and he worked hard to get him some nice animals. I hunted with Anton Bestes who worked for Larry and he was a great PH. I got 11 different species of animals and my friend that was hunting with him got more than that. There are some nice kudu in the area (cape), and I got a steenbock that measured 6 inches on one horn and 6 1/8 on the other. I don't know if you are booking a plains game hunt or for Buf with him in Moz. Send me a PM with questions and we can talk more.

Russell is a friend of mine and we have hunted together in the past. He is a good mine and will do his best for you in every respect.

Sierrabravo45, what kind of species did you and your friend shoot? How many days did you hunt?
Some of my priorities is Cape kudu, cape bushbuck, cape grysbok, vaal rhebok, the three springboks etc etc... Have a list of 12-13 species. Will hunt for 10 days 1:1..
