What is the story with the rooster and the cage? Is it a trap for a carnivore?

Yes, on the property where we found my steenbok, the land owner had several of these live traps out. His main target was caracal, but said he'd occasionally get jackal as well.

I would have liked to return to do some night calling for those predators, but time ran out.
