Does anyone have any experience with this outfit hunting near Port Elizabeth in RSA?

I did a search and came up with several "in passing" mentions, but nothing pro or con.

They have good literature abut I wonder if the hunting is "too easy," whatever I might mean by that.

I would recommend Camdeboo Safaris. Your hunt can be as hard or easy as you want. You can contact Gary Tonks at camsaf@wam.co.za and their web site is http://www.angelfire.com/on2/camdeboosafaris/. Gary is very professional and has a beautiful lodge.

I hunted with John X in 1999. Tony (aka Outdoor Writer) hunted with them a year or two back. If you do a search in the Hunting Reports section looking for "John X" you should find something.

As to the hunting, it wasn't the hardest hunt I've been on - nothing like a sheep hunt or even a backpack elk hunt.

Here are photos should you want to get an idea of what we hunted/took.

Feel free to PM or email me if you want to talk more. I'm happy to do so.

Indy,

We hunted with John X Safaris 2 years ago and I enjoyed the trip(my first to Africa)very much. We took the plainsgame package of Kudu,Gemsbok,Blesbok,Impala and Springbuck. Rick comes off as a smart A$$ at times but all in all it was a
good start. If you book the package hunt make sure you make it perfectly clear that you want to take your package animals first. I made the mistake of mentioning some additional animals and that's all we hunted the first 3 days. I wound up with 10 trophies and 6 were Gold Medal.
We hunted hard and some of it was as tough as you would want. I think if I go again it will be Namibia for Greater Kudu, Waterbuck, Eland, And maybe a good Bushbuck.

Good Hunting,
Hawkeye

I hunted with them in 1999 (my first trip to Africa) and had a good hunt. My PH was Ed Wilson. The Kudu are Eastern Cape which don't get as large as the Greater Kudu, but still make a great trophy. I managed to get a 50" which is quite good for an Eastern Cape. All in all, I would definately give them a positive recommendation.

I hunted on different ranches for different game animals, so expect to drive out each morning from the camp. The camp was very nice and the food was excellent.

Nothing wrong with hunting near Port Elizabeth (the Detroit of Africa) except it's not the real Africa. Flora and topography, I mean. It's on the ocean. And most of the fauna is truck-bred). However, the hunts in the Eastern Cape are very inexpensive.

For the same money, plus minus, you can enjoy Namibia...the properties are ten times the size, and the hunting is for wild bred animals in their natural state.

Russ, go to the cape and hunt Blue Duiker, Mt Reedbuck and Vaal Rehbok and tell me it is not hunting. I love Namabia but tell me Black Wildebest not introduced.
