Dear Folks

My apologies for a very belated mid-season report. The reason being, is that we have been extremely busy which is fantastic news indeed!

We were very concerned early season as we had had a tremendous amount of rain. We really felt we would struggle to find quality trophies due the thick bush and abundance of water!

Thankfully we were very pleasantly surprised and the early hunts were excellent with great buff.

Our greatest surprise was the number of super plains game being successfully hunted so far, including a 63“Kudu bull! It has also been our most successful Hyena season to date -we have so far shot 21 Hyenas with many to hopefully come!!

On the aquatic side we have collected some magnificent crocs and hippo with the highlight being Allan and Trev tracking a huge hippo bull for the whole day and shooting him with a double in the jesse at close quarters!

Trophy Elephant bull hunting is slower than usual as a result of the US Fish and Wildlife ban. We have however done a few trophy elephant bull hunts that have been great. The Valley is true hunting and tracking these bulls all day in the Jesse combined with close encounters is the real deal.

The tuskless hunts have been 100% successful also and the amazing thing is that this year we have shot 2 tuskless bulls in the East. Considering that in 20 plus years of hunting I have only seen 3 tuskless bulls, we have been very lucky indeed!!

We have also had to sell a number of our trophy bulls as non trophies due to the ban. These are non export and more affordable then our export trophy elephant bull hunts. These hunts, while not generating the maximum funds that filter back into anti poaching and communities are still a proper hard earned elephant done on foot the right way.

By the beginning of July we had done several leopard. We had had a failure in Hammond in the Save Valley but the Dande we had been 100% successful. Out of the 7 leopards that were shot 5 were in day light hours

As we move into the second half of the season we look forward to our lion hunt. The lion activity has been unbelievable and we hope and expect to get a great trophy. Several nice cats have been caught on trail-camera eating our leopard baits such as this lion below.

CMS is also excited to be doing a few hunts in the Charara Safari area from a tented camp along the Kariba Lake shore. This area has the best Croc Hippo and bushbuck hunting in the country and we expect some great results!

DAPU has been very busy this season. Thanks to some generous donations from several clients and the Dallas Safari Club we continue to keep the poaching under control. Below is the link to the DAPU early season reports for those that may be interested in reading it.

DAPU

What has been on the increase is Mozambique poachers building tree blinds “Machans” at springs and pans on or near the border. They then sit in them over the Full moon and shoot anything that comes to the water with their homemade muzzle loaders. We have dismantled and destroyed a number of these.

Our latest success has been the arrest of 3 elephant poachers that had killed a young bull in the area next door to us. DAPU informer base came to the fore and information led to their arrest. The poachers are in court today and I will update you on the results!!

I would like to thank all of our clients so far this season. CMS appreciates your support and above all your friendship. We pride ourselves in being a personal safari company that pays attention to each and every client. We look forward to the next half of the season!

All the best CMS

Congrats on a great start to your season. Glad to hear you have been real busy. The Kudu and Sable show the DAPU is working. Two tuskless bulls, what a trophy those are.

Dead Eye- yes it was good to have Butch with us for two hunts. When we are full and need a free lance PH in Dande we are careful whom we choose but Butch is one of the good guys.

He loved it and he shot two nice leopards in broad day light on his first sitting-something he is not used to in the SAVE!

Congratulations to all the CMS team and the happy clients, some fine trophies,

By the way I just saw a picture of the recently taken lion in Dande, what an absolute beast I never thought lions with that manes could come out of the valley, again congratulations to all involved!
