Dang biebs! This is totally unfair. Your ancient Buff has been eclipsed by this monster Buff! You should have put them in two different posts to let people appreciate yours.

Fine Buffalo. Either of them would make a hunter proud.

Gonarezhou Buff genes are arguably some of the finest in southern Africa. That is a magnificent Buffalo along with a couple fine trophies!

Well done Gentlemen

I should have been the fourth member of Bieb's party but as I type this, the Zimbabwean visa that I applied for last April 24 has seen no approval up to now. I sent my passport all the way to Washington, DC where my visa application was submitted because I tried to touch base with the Zimbabwe consulates in China, Japan and Malaysia to no avail. Citizens of the United States are blessed in that they are not required to have a visa to enter Zimbabwe. Being a national of the Philippines, I not only need a Zimbabwean visa, I also need a transit visa for South Africa even if I will only stay in Joberg for a few hours to catch the connecting flight to Harare. I was disappointed when I ran out of time and just could not make it - there were just too many hoops to hurdle. I'm disappointed more after seeing the magnificent trophies you gentlemen took.

Jon, I read that plans are already in the making for a return trip to Africa. Here's hoping I'll be able to go with you on that next trip.
In fact, I have not sent in my plane ticket for a refund....

Nice photos and report, thanks for sharing.

Best,

Jess

Gentlemen,
I would like to correct myself when I said that US nationals do not need visa to enter Zimbabwe. In fact, they do need a visa but this is issued at the port of entry when the passenger arrives. Visa fees range from $30 for a single entry to $55 for multiple entries.
I would like to apologize for the misstep.

Well done Jon, those are some excellent old dagga boys! I don't know which I like most, the old head with character or the big, wide bull... oh hell, who am I kidding, the big wide bull is magnificent!

It was a memorable hunt, and the Mauser M03 fed and ejected like greased lightning. I was impressed. After the first shot, it sounded like I was shooting a semi-auto as I racked rounds into a running Buff :-)

"the old warrior"
To quote a PH I met " bloody hell that's a proper buffalo"

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Congrats on a great trip.

I'm headed back with a group in July 2014. Rumor has it that the famous Louisianian buff slayer, BEGNO, won't be far behind.

those Nixon areas are unbelievable for trophy
Hunted with Nixon last year ( 84 pounder and 42" buff )
Was there when one of the South Africans killed 50 & 1/2 " buff last November. Lotsa country to hunt.
Nixon and the crew are one of the kind for sure.

R8? My favorite rifle! I was going to bring my R8 Attache', but didn't want to scar it up. Guess I need to get a synthetic Pro stock for it. Those brown Savanna stocks are awesome.

Thanks Biebs. I also lost one to the Kruger.
Oh well, happens, good hit , but only 100 yards to park boundary.
Nixon is great guy. Had a great hunt, tough, but good.
Heading back in 2014 October for elephant again. Just couldn't pull it off this year.
