From Jburg to DAR I have a friend travelling to meet me. Problem is flight comes in at 2:30PM which leaves little time for clearing and charter to camp before dark. Charter company can make the flight with a Caravan but the question is.. has anyone made this trip and how long normally coming from SA does it take to clear immigration at Dar, guns, etc. If he can clear by 3:30 no problem to make charter. Other option is to come in day before but flights are sold out. Interested in any input or experiences coming from Joburg to Dar.

Thanks,

Larry

I haven't benn from Jo'burg to Dar, but when I arrived in Dar from Amsterdam in 2005, customs went quickly. It is advisable to obtain a Tanzania visa prior to arrival to prevent having to stand in line to get one at the airport. This will definetly help speed the overall arrival process.

I have had good and bad experiences at customs in Dar. Getting the visa ahead of time is a BIG timesaver.

I had some delays once because the outfitter did not have the rifle paperwork in order. But I have had delays because customs was just plain slow.

I would have a "plan B" in case you are delayed there. I would go over the details with your agent or outfitter to be sure as much as possible is done ahead of time.
