i am looking to possibly do a hunt in Zim in a couple years. My maine target is going to be Buffalo and Leopard but would liek to hunt for Kudu, warthog and possibly Nyala.

Are there any recomendations to certain area or Outfitters to hunt with for the above species? Like i said my main concern is the Buff and Leopard and Kudu mostly.
I have looked at Zambezi hunters and i like the looks of what they have to offer. Any others out there?
Thanks

With Nyalla being on the list It would generally mean that the hunt would have to take place in the south east lowveldt or if your lucky you could arrange a hunt with Chifuti Safaris at Chewore North where they have a limited quota on nyalla.
Chewore has good Buff, Leopard and Kudu also.

I'll give a favorable nod to Zambezi Hunters for leopard, buff, and PG. Nyala are very, very limited quota. Kudu and warthog not a problem

A buff/leopard hunt is going to keep you plenty busy ... hoping to add a decent kudu and an nyala on the same hunt is pushing your luck. Unless you hunt a fenced ranch; then it's all doable except perhaps the leopard which is iffy at the best of times and they are smarter on fenced ranches it seems. Warthog is just a question of which one you want to shoot, in many areas.

Either way, be aware you are looking at a rather expensive hunt when you combine buff with leopard, and it's going to be 12 days or more. This is fine if you get your leopard but it's painful to pay all those daily fees and strike out on the leopard. It happens more often than not.

I would recommend that you do a leopard/PG hunt someplace where Nyala are plentiful (eg Zululand, where you won't pay thousands per day), and then follow up with a buff/kudu hunt the next trip, which can be gotten for 750-950 per day depending on the area and how late in the season you book. You can add mickey mouse stuff on either trip.

Note, leopard hunts must generally be booked well in advance. The quota is very limited, and you have to go in June or early July for the best odds. Buff you can book any time.

Very good thoughts Russ. I never thought of a few of those things.
I won't worry about the Nyala I guess right now and I guess I have to look into things a little mor to see where I am at. It just seems silly with $2500 flights and charter planes to do 2 different hunts. I don't want to try and afford that and really can't to be honest and thought if I did it all at once I could handle it a bit better and do all of it. More study time now I guess. I may PM you a bit later on some questions Russ if you don't mind.

threeway safaris is a good option. I hunted with another outfitter that use to hunt the other side of the bubi river before they were kicked off as one of Mugabe's mates got the area and i got a nice Nyala. Nice area good chance of Nyala in the 25-27 inch range maybe a bigger one but the average is around the 26" mark

Zambezi Hunters is great. Zim is not the best country for nyala, although they are certainly there in a limited geographical area.

there was some good hunting there at bubye wasnt there. I managed to get nyala kudu and bushbuck plus some others there. My mate did better. He got eland as well. I got mine elsewhere. Nyala were 26-27 but the other spirals were all exceptional

As far as I know John Sharp hunts in the bubye rive conservancy along with a bunch of other operators. Really awesome place! East and South east of that you will find Nunetsi ranch but they have stopped hunting for the moment and Threeways Safaris. There is also Mateki hills and from personal experience is a very good area for Nyala
and Leopard. I know the South Eastern parts well, if you need specific info send me a PM

I would recommend Gordon Duncan with Doma Safaris for the leopard and buff; don't know about nyala.

Had a very good hunt with Chifuti Safaris on my Leopard/Buffalo safari in 2008. Took a 40" Buffalo and a sweet Leopard on day 7. Not an over abundance of plains game, but the DG hunting was awesome.

You might try John Hunt of Georgia Safaris. He books through Adventure Unlimited. He has an area near Beitbridge that has good buffalo, leopard, nyala, kudu and warthog, and his prices are very reasonable. He also has some monster bushbuck!

nube, I hunted the Bubye with John Sharp last year. He can easily get your leopard/buffalo but I had nyala on my ticket and we did not see a single hair in fourteen days and I think the entire 1,000,000 acres has but four nyala on their entire quota. Be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Last time I talked with him he had sold all of his 2010 leopard and had but one left for 2011 and that was over a month ago.

I think if i went into the Bubye area with John my hunting partners would like the area as there seems to be a good amount of plains game in the area. The more i think about things the more I think I should do the Nyala on another hunt.
i have talked with Buzz Charltona nd he says he has very high success with Leopard and near %100 which is nice to know. I like the thought of taking a long drive into the area instead of an expensive flight as well. It would be neat to see the country a bit even though it is a long drive into Dande North. i am just trying to get all of my options to make the right choice. This is a once in a lifetime thing to get my Leopard and Buff and i don't want to go home without one. I know it is hunting but I want the best chance for success.

Nube,

Unless you have one foot in the grave and another almost in, it is highly unlikely that this will be your only African Safari.

I hunt for Roger Whittall Safaris and have done for the last 15 years. Personally I believe that the Save valley is now the best Buff hunting in Zim bar none and the leopard there are also of top quality, Nyala are plentiful there as Roger has spent many years building the population to high standards. Anyone that has hunted Humani will tell you that there is a true abundance of game there. I would highly recommend considering a sfari with Roger Whittall feel free to contact me if you have any queries

I'd strongly second at least talking with Roger Whittall Safaris. He has excellent buffalo, leopard, big lion, nyala, and many elephant, plus large numbers of plains game. You're likely to see B & W rhino on his Save site. Excellent PH's and trackers. Many choices, RWS is one of the top for my money.

The general consensus above is that the Save Valley is way ahead off opposition if you want to get everything on your list. However Russ Gould makes a very good point in that a list that long takes time and you would have to plan a fairly lengthy trip to try and bag everything on the list....

Zambezi Hunters is a great choice. I took a nice buffalo, kudu and an outstanding leopard (#43 SCI) with them.

They could always arrange a nyala hunt on an ajacent concession if you got the other three in the salt. A buffalo and leopard hunt is no small feat and I would focus on your DG first and foremost.

N.

I would have to go with thoughts of OZHUNTER and Russ Gould. Don't over book your dance card. Pick what you desire most and then persue the others. Problem is... going to Africa is like being a blind dog in a meat house when you first start looking.

Chifuti... real pros. Contact Safari Classics or www.safariclassics.net Straight arrow guys will not blow smoke.

I have hunted with Roger twice on the Save and twice on Bubye. I like the country better on the Save with the big river and lots of bushbuck. I also like the semi-open chalets on Rogers camps. Tons of game on both Conservancies with big buffalo on both places. Haven't hunted the Save in several years so don't know what the cat situation is like although I know they have some monsters.
The Bubye also has cats and is the only place I have seen leopards in the daytime. Had two friends hunt there in 08 and neither got a leopard on a 14 day hunt BUT they also wouldn't sit in a blind!!! I did see 4 different nyala bulls and I would have shot any one of them in a heartbeat.
I think you would enjoy hunting with Peter Wood(Save) as I have been around him in camps and Brent Hein would be top notch over at the Bubye. Bottom line, I don't think you could go wrong at either place.
