Jumbos Attack Two Schools

Two primary schools in Wundanyi face closure following an invasion by elephants.

The area District Officer, Mr Onyango Ogolla, said the elephants had paralysed learning at Kishushe and Gongodini primary schools.

"Pupils and teachers have been forced to report late to school and leave early," said Ogolla.

Parents and guardians were being forced to escort pupils to and from the schools for fear of their being attacked by the stray elephants.

Ogolla said the elephants, which roam the schools' compounds day and night, had imposed "a dawn-to-dusk curfew" in the area.

Speaking during a security meeting in Wundanyi town, the administrator said the jumbos were destroying crops in Taita-Taveta District and urged the Kenya Wildlife Service to find a lasting solution to the menace.
