I contacted the Director of the Sparta Hunt Club, based in Denmark. They used to organize trips to hunt with Boet Nel. They do not use him anymore. Another AR member PMd me that Sparta had problems with him, so I wrote to Sparta and asked what problems they had.

I believe the email below is self explanatory.

Jens wrote:

I just got back from Argentina and thank you for your mail. I am sorry to hear about your problems with Boet Nel. We were informed in November 2005 by several sources that Boet Nel owed money all round. We proposed to him, that all payment in advance to him should go to a bank account and he could only draw money out, when the trophies from each hunt were delivered to our shipping agent in Windhoek . He refuses to do so, and we stopped the cooperation with him. We also had problems to get the last trophies out from Namibia.
Best regards
Jens

The man was jerked around, his wife insulted, and money extorted and NOW he is owed money by Boet Nel, I'd get the biggest hammer I could too.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

404 I have no reason not to beleive you or your claims about your poorly exicuted safari with this guy. Your draging in the danes is bush league and does nothing to further your cause. I get it you were slighted and are mad as hell. you also want what is owed you. I agree on both counts. It seems you are 3 feet up this guys ass with a power tool right now and this thread does little or nothing to help you while making you look petty. Even the counter point by the supposed eye witness changes nothing in the validity of your claim. In short many of us agree with you already dont help us.

404WJJeffery,

Good luck in getting what you are owed back.

I have absolutely no sympathy with crooks - be they PHs, outfitters or clients.

Noticed that Boet Nel will be an exhibitor in Dallas in 2009.

I'm going to stop and and chat with him.

FWIW he did eventually partially refund my money to me, about 2 years later and after lots of pressure to do so- I posted this in the main thread.

I'll be glad to be a part of Terry's Crowd! See ya in Dallas!

It isn't "Bush League" to bring additional testimony in showing this guy has a history doing the same thing to other clients!

I think it is correct.

I agree....keep us informed.
If you screw someone you deserve the bad PR. If you screw a member here knowing how may potential clients are regulars here and refuse to rectify it...you are risking losing future clients. These posts all took place while I was planning my first trip to Africa....needless to say I crossed this fella off my list.

If I were 404 I'd be mad as hell too and slam this guy any chance I could.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but Crusher, I wonder just how you would be handling this if YOU were the one that had the issue?

This is NOT bush league at all. Let this be a lesson to outfitters, vendors, and booking agents who post here. Frankly, I wish members of this site were a bit more critical of agents and even vendors who post here. Seems people are reluctant after watching how dissatisfied clients have been raked over the coals. This is total Bullshit. There is plenty of hunt overselling and product misrepresentation on AR that really needs to be addressed at some point.

I don't know either of you guys well but did run into Mr. Nel in Salt lake last year. I even asked him about your complaint and your respective accounts differ as to the extent of the problems. Based on your posts you seem to be an o.k. guy and boet seems the same.

The Danish fellow didn't seem to have any first hand problems with boet, just that boet would not meet his terms concerning trophy delivery.

You certainly are a vindictive sort when you feel wronged. (tenacious as well)

The only hope for resolution seems to be face to face @ SCI or similar venue. These things seem to be less difficult to solve in person.

So what you will find here are our actual experiences, good or bad. If you have any interesting ideas, or if you have come across anything you think might be of interest to other fellow shooters, please consider sharing it with us, we would love to hear from you.

Thanks for sharing. It is nice to hear something other than all the positive stuff.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
