This is a brief preliminary report since I have many home assignments such as cutting 5 acres of grass and just returned yesterday and am still suffering from jet lag. I'll add to the post later.
The first animal taken was a quite nice Red Hartebeest at a bit over 100 yards with a Thompson/Center handgun chambered for 460 S&W Magnum shooting Hornady 250 gr. SST/ML (muzzleloader bullets) bullets.
For some reason, the Zebras that had been leaving, decided to come back our way after I shot the Red Hartebeest so I took one of them as well with the 460 S&W. In fact, I could have left my rifle at home since I took all of my 14 animals except two with the hand gun. My varmint gun was a Blaser (Walter would approve) 375 H&H Magnum shooting Hornady 300 grain FMJ RN bullets.
Other animals taken were a European Fallow Deer, an Impala, a Vaal Rhebok, a Klipspringer (at 180 yards), 2 Cape Grysboks, an African Wildcat (with the Blaser), a Jackal (with the Blaser), a Steenbok, a Kalahari Sprinbok, a Gray Duiker and a porcupine.
Several of the trophies were expeptional. Unless someone has taken a better one since publication of the SCI record book I had access to, my Vaal Rhebok will probably be number one in the handgun category and several of the others should make it into the top 5 of the handgun catetories.
