I have some trophies at Taxidermy Enterprises in Buleweyo and have been in communication with them and with the South African shipping comapanies. The trophies were to be shipped on 15 July but now I am informed that there are new Zim government regs which must be complied with and the shipment is delayed. I have worked with Taxidermy Enterprises on several occasions and have explicit faith in them. Anybody know anything about this?

I hunted in Zimbabwe in late April and early May. Taxidermy Enterprises received my animals on June 2, 2004. They are telling me turn around for tip and pack is 3 to 4 months. With this just being the start of the safari season I do not understand the reason for the delay.
Wiil anxiously watch AR for any reports on furthur problems.

It's another Mugabe govt practice to help control the "export" of trophies... long story short - in the midst of all the "goings on" over there, some trophies were finding their way across borders and out of the country without being paid for (at least in full.) So now all trophies have to go through a governmental bank to certify that all trophy fees have been paid.

I was notified about a month ago that mine were ready and they arrived last week. There was a time not too long ago when several weeks/months was the backlog, but you should be OK, which is to say that they should "clear the bank" within a 3-4 week period.

Good luck

All appears to be well. I just got an e mail from Taxidermy Enterprises notifying me that the documentation is complete and the trophies can now be shipped. I don't think there is a substantive problem. Thanks for the responses guys

Cig 2, I am also having some taxidermy work done in Bulawayo by Matabele Land Taxidermy. My hunt was in May of 03 and I have been notified that my mounts are done. They also said that there will be a delay in the shipping but gave no time frame. Do you know who your shipper will be and what they charge? Did they give you a choice on shippers and have you looked into different shippers your self? I'm haveing shoulder mounts done of an eland, impala, warthog and euro mounts of a kudu and wildebeest plus a zebra rug. I live in Seattle WA so my shipping charge will be more than yours. Any info you are willing to share on the shipping costs from Zim would be appreciated. I will aslo check on the shipper I used from SA in 02 and see what they will charge me. I will pass that on if you want .

Hi Donato
It's kind of hard to compare because of the nature of my mounts. I have a cape and skull mount for my Leopard which is ready for shipment right now and I have shoulder mounts for my Kudu and Waterbuck and a Hyena rug which will be ready soon. The cost for shipping the cape and skull for the Leopard is $435.00. I do not yet have a price for the shoulder mounts. The shipping is being handled by World Wide Logistics in Joburg. They have never offered me any choices regarding shipping companies and i've never asked about this possibility. I'm probably inclined to allow the experts to handle shipping from Africa but it probably wouldn't hurt to enquire. Sorry I can't be more help-if you like, I will post when I have a final quote.

just a couple of days by air, but when they hit us soil - they have to travel to thier final destination by truck, i.e.: no intercontinentl flights... once they've his US soil (at least that what coppersmith told me a few weeks back).

after that... it only takes as long as it takes for the truck to get from where the freight landed to where its going.
