We have just returned from Mozambique and want to pass on the experience we
had hunting at Jumbo's Kambako Camp.
Jumbo's area is appx. 1.5 million acres of Miombo Woodlands in the Niassa
Reserve that features landscape from flat river lands to rugged mountains.
Of the 12 or so safaris I have been on, this unfenced block has a population
of wildlife you would find in fenced reserves. With Barry Style as our PH,
we traveled only a small portion of the hunting area, but saw on just about
a daily basis Waterbuck, Johnsons Impala, Worthog, Kudu, Eland, Bushpig,
Common Duiker, Red Duiker, Bushbuck, Cape Buffalo, Bohms Zebra, Sable,
Yellow baboon, Hippo and Crocodile. We heard Hyena calling from time to time
and saw the fresh spoor of Elephant. The block also has a healthy population
of Leopard and Lion.
In the 10 days of hunting, in typical Barry Style fashion, we hunted hard
and passed on species we were hunting because "we can do better". We put
zebra, impala, red duiker and 2 buffalo in the salt. All of these
trophies are very impressive with the buffalo rough taping about 38" and 42"
with good bosses, drops and tips. The photo does not do them justice. We
were not successful on Suni but managed to call in 2 "fishermen" early
one morning with machetes in hand looking for a wounded animal to add to
their creel of fish. But, "If we had another day or 2 we'd ah got that damn
male Suni cause we saw the lady Suni daily".
Jumbo's Kambako lodge is nothing short of terrific with meals to match any
we have ever experienced in both hunting camps and restaurants. We were
catered to from the moment we stepped off the flight in Pemba to clearing
the country on our way out of Pemba.
In closing I have to say that one of the wiser decisions I have made on a
safari was to spend a day at Jumbo's Pemba Beach Lodge. Ending a safari by
chilling for a day at a beautiful lodge on the Indian Ocean before taking
the 39 hours of airports and airplanes to return home made the trip more
bearable. As a matter of fact, next time I think we'll spend 2 days at the
beach lodge before returning home.
Nazdarovia Jumbo for building a great lodge and safari destination.
Nick

You need to get or upload the pictures on a host site like Photo bucket before. Then you need to copy the URL from Photo bucket and then paste it here on AR using the URL icon on the bar above the square you type in.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Barry Style(manager of buffalo range safaris) and Jumbo Moore for many years. Both are great people. Without question Jumbo's areas in Mozambique are some of the best in Africa. His lodges are in my opinion some of the best you will find in all of Africa.
