Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Brett,

Its not as easy for some of us as that, many steps you say "just do this" we cant do. I forced myself to learn but it is still hard.

Thanks to all for your warm welcome...and for your assistance re pictures !
The outfitter is Kaka Matama. He has no website. Kaka has two exclusive agents : myself and my friend & partner Astrid Gorsline in Germany.
I am his agent for 8 years now, since he started hunting again after an over 20 years closure.
Along this period most of his clients were Europeans : Danish, Germans, and French.
I booked with him French & Spanish & Brazilian hunters....all successfull and happy.
All of them -record-trophy orientated ot not - got some truly fantastic trophies such as 34' waterbuck, huge leopard, 48' buffalo, and a lot more.
Being busy and successfull with Europeans explains why Kaka remained not or little known in the U.S, although being the one and only who did reopen Uganda to hunting 8 years ago (only at Lake Mburo then).
He is a totally reliable operator, very experienced, well organised, and a wonderful individual : a true professional and a true gentleman.
He is an Honorary Game Warden and receives very high praises from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
In the ld days he did guide many of my french friends on great big game hunts.
To briefly introduce myself, African hunting is my passion and my only business since 1976. I am member of SCI (since 1980), Conseil International de la Chasse, administrator of International Game Foundation (founded by Prince Abdorezza Pahlavi), life member of IPHA.
Don't hesitate to ask for references to reputable operators like Robin Hurt,Luke Samaras,Gerard Pasanisi,Greg Butler,Rob Style and others.
I own and manage my booking agency and sorry have no website, don't need it since it is small & exclusive & successfull and I want to keep it small.
Now if you like to hunt Uganda may I also recommend that you do it ASAP :
Being virtually unhunted, generally speaking the game is tame, hunting easy, and trophy quality is just outstanding.
Hunting in our areas is fruitful and pleasant - as is the country - by all aspects but possibly one : it often involves lot of driving.
Kaka still has some openings this year and next.
Send me an email at info@dannaudsafaris.com and I shall gladly forward his schedule of hunts & terms, wich basically are :
* 10 day buffalo & plainsgame.
* 14 day sitatunga & buffalo & plainsgame.
* 16 day leopard & sitatunga & plainsgame.
So far they are reasonnably priced. The best is to come :
Uganda with its vast expanses of papyrus traditionnally is a heaven for sitatunga and the area we have just been granted has the reputation to be the very BEST in the country. Last week after I returned home my friend Ted paid a two days visit to this area wich is only 2 1/2 drive from Lake Mburo : Within two hours with his tracker he saw 7 males sitatunga on the 1st day, a further 6 males on the 2nd day.
All in walking, easy to stalk up to 40 yards. No boat, no high-seat. He reckon one trophy is around 30'.
Some of my clients booked August but JULY is still open so I would LOVE an A.R member to benefit this opportunity and be the very first to hunt this new area and later share his report & pictures with fellow members...
