We just returned from our first safari to Africa. We hunted South Africa with PH's Peter Thormahlen and Phillip Fourie. We had a fantastic time!
Because we wanted specific trophies, we ended up going to several different concessions--most would have been available at one property but other properties had bigger animals.
We started for waterbuck near Kruger--in fact, the property had open fences to the park. The accomodations were wonderful and we took 2 nice animals. We then moved to the main concession near Malelane--we took Kudu, warthog, impala, and wildebeest. The first night's accomodations was at the lodge on the concession but we were supposed to be the only group there and the manager had booked another large party (we were the only people hunting there but the other group was at the lodge). Peter was very apologetic and moved us the next day to the most fantastic place I have ever stayed--the River House in Malelane. The proprieter Johan was gracious and entertaining and the food was excellent. River House is across the river from Kruger and elephants and rhinos come to the river and can be watched from the large deck.
We then went to Kimberly for gemsbok, eland, and springbok. Again the lodging was very nice and the hunting was great.
Peter and Phillip also made sure our non-hunting spouses were kept as busy as they wished to be--touring and birding as well as occasionally going hunting with us.

We just got back from Africa. We stayed with a friend just 3 doors up from the River House. What days were you there? We were there June 19-22. Sounds like you had a good hunt.

We were there from the 17th to the 21st, so we did overlap. The first night we were at River House, Johan and Peter arranged for the Swazi village group to sing and dance on his lawn after dinner--what a beautiful performance!
