The taxi I have chosen to use in SA uses an outfit called "Safari Cargo Systems and Fauna & Flora Customshouse" to ship trophy's via ocean freight.

While I won't get the bill for this for another 7-8 months, the estimate seems quite high.

Anyone have any experience with this group?

Does anyone have any other shippers or options they would like to share?

thanks

I have used Safari Cargo Systems and they provided competitive quotes and good service.

I would ask for some other quotes just to make sure. I have encountered "math" errors on "estimates".

SCS's initial "estimates" were always higher than the final amounts invoiced.

Also check on the amount they insure your shipment for. Do want it insured for max loss exposure - expensive. Or just the minimum value of the trophy - less expensive.

Have used both for a couple of SA safaris and F&F for importing a couple more. Highly recommend both. Good communication, reasonable costs, and no issues at all. Have shipped both sea and air. Sea was @ 50% of air freight but 3-4 months longer.

I used Logwin from Kimberley to Houston two crates. two shoulder mounts, eight europeans, ten skins. Local and airfreight cost to Houston was $970 including minimal insurance. taxi in RSA screwed all mounts to crate and skins were well prepared. I asked for three quotes including ocean freight costs and due to port of entry for ocean freight was only to New York, the costs for me was pretty much the same for the two options considering the costs to ship from New York to Houston. Airfreight was direct to Houston on Delta.

Used the same for my SA trophies.. While the cost is not cheap there were no issues at all.

Just got the word that my mounts are done and ready to ship, ( actually about a week ago). Was quoted only air initially, asked for a water taxi and also contacted JJ Meehan aT F&F for quotes as well. Have done business with F&F before and was well pleased. He got the go ahead today and I know it will be handled. Roughly $1500 to NY from SA. Crate 205kg.

have you checked with Zingela Forwarders yet? I think they are www.zingelaforwarders.co.za (Jo0berg iirc) You might also want to ask your PH how big a cut of that price is a referral/kickback fee...?

In 2009 I let F&F handle everything. In 2010 I checked with Zingela and the shipping/customs cost for Shoulder mounts (to my driveway) for Kudu, Gemsbok, Waterbuck, and a full mount Caracal was less than F&F charged me for just a Cape Buffalo skull and raw hide.
And, Zingela sent everything Swiss Air Freight for $255 more than ocean freight. 34 hours after it left Jo-berg, it was in NYC.
