I'm looking for info on the benefits/drawbacks of an April/May 2008 trip to the East Cape versus Limpopo or Natal Province.Trapntrav is a friend of mine, so the info on Frontier Safaris is easy to come by.
Small concessions with high fences is not what I want to hunt in.
Animals interested in:
Kudu, Bushbuck, Red Hartebeest,Gemsbok,Impala, Blesbok,Zebra, Warthog.
Depending on overall price/opportunity, one or more of the following as well: Eland, Waterbuck, Nyala

Hunt Namibia or the cape all the areas you mention are fenced. Much larger areas in the
cape in RSA. More open areas in Namibia

wsquared,

As an Eastern Cape alternative to Frontier, consider Karoo Safaris outside of Cradock. Their US agent is Jeff Martinell at Luxury Hunts This is a much more personal experience than Frontier.

I know Jeff hunted there this spring. It's reported to be about 100,000 acres. I'll be there next month for a while, and will report back here. The Hunting Manager is Owen Smith [he ran the former Bethaven Safaris operation] who has become a good friend over the last few years. He runs a classy hunting experience - with him you really HUNT!

The Eastern Cape offers some wonderful hunting experiences and yes, there are some pretty big hunting areas but there are decent sized hunting areas up in Limpopo and North-West Province as well where you won't even see a fence while hunting.

Drawbacks - EC: Trophy quality is generally not as good as up in Limpopo - especially for Kudu and Impala. You're going to spend an extra 2 hours on the plane after arriving at Johannesburg Airport and clearing customs after which you're going to spend more time on the road travelling to the hunting camp. Otherwise the EC may be well worth visiting.
