G'Day All
Firstly thanks Adam(ozhunter) for posting the pictures for me,I need to get the hang of that. But A bit of a report is need to go with the buff i guess. It took few days to take that nice old dagga boy.The first night in camp with a few sundowners shared with Roos Johnson and Clive Halimor we talk about an area were not to many people hunt due to the long walk in and plans were made to have a look.Mat Stanton(PH) and I walked down into the valley were we had seen water from the top and after finding three pools one of which buff had drank the day before. we were lucky enough to see a large female or young tom leopard walk infront of us at fifty feet with not a care in the world but didn't find the bulls after walking seven kilometers. We return the next day to walk into the last pool from the day before as it had the best sign but apart from a good hyena which I didn't shoot incase we spooked the buff we didn't find any sign until we reached the last water hole were five bulls had drank. We got on the tracks and after walking a total of 14km by the GPS we didn't even get a look at them and they didn't even drink must have got it in there head to walk for the day.The next day we left them alone and tried a pool close to the park boundary and we got onto tracks in the afternoon of two dagga boy's.Some time later we nearly stood on top of them in some really nasty thick scrub. As we tried to work into a position in which to get a shot, the buff saw us and took off.A hasty shot from the 500 didn't even come close. We left them with a plan to come back the next morning and see if they crossed a road if not track them up from the first shot.Luck was on our side and they crossed a road saving hours of tracking. After two hours the track came to a herd which didn't look good and after a long look no good bulls were found so we leap frogged around them and the tracker found the two bull tracks again. We had not tracked for more than an hour when I looked over Mat's head and at the same time we both made out the bull lying down once again in the thick stuff.Swapping the 500 for the 9.3x62 I could make out a small opening in the trees behind the bulls shoulder.I shot then as he ran off hit him again in the "H" bone ,picking up the 500 and hit him twice more as Matt let him have it with the 470.The old dagga boy didn't make 100m before dropping were he still needed one more to stopping him trying to get up.Tough old bugger!!!It turn out that he was the second bull not the one I had missed the day before and he is smaller than the one I missed!!!!I know one thing this buff hunting is really addictive can't wait to do it again. We then move down south to hunt plains game and as you can see i took a few nice animals. Then with a terribe hang over I visited vic falls before returning home were in true african form my lugged and rifles missed the flight taking another ten days to find me safe and sound.can't wait to get back there dancing

I used 286grn woodleigh protected points in the 9.3 and 535grn prtotected points in the 500j.As for the water at that time of the year there seemed to be a lot of water more than you would think, infact the water in the sengwa was still running under the sand and we managed to get bogged while putting out baits. The elephant were not digging more then a few feet to drink.Although we saw a lot of jumbo a a guess the biggest we would have seen would be no more than 20-30 pounds at most.I never heard any lion but we found tracks of a lioness with a cub in one area below Ian Smiths look out and one lioness tracks in the sengwa but no males
