Hunted the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania from 10/23/01 to 11/02/01 in their R-1 camp. My PH was Cliff Walker who did an excellent job. Camp facilities, staff, food and accomondations were good. Took two nice Cape Buffalos, Zebra, Lichtenstein Hartebeest & Nyasa Wildebeest.
The S&S group has some major problems with getting trophies shipped out of Dar Es Salaam to their destination. Apparently the three S&S camps hunting this area let the trophies sit through the hunting season and "SLOWLY" begin processing the hides and heads after the season is over. I waited "EIGHT MONTHS" to get them shipped to my taxidermist in South Africa. During this period of eight months, communications on shipping status with the S&S organization was very poor. Even the Taxidermist in S. Africa could not get adequate responses. The person in Dar Es Salaam who handles the shipping for S&S has one speed, very slow. It was not until another client, who was using the same taxidermist in SA, threatened legal action did Doug Scandrol get involved. While it is part of Doug Scandrol's responsibilties, it appears he is too busy with new clients and hunting to correct the problem. When the taxidermist received the trophies they reported that all the Zebras received from S&S were improperly cut. All three Zebras where cut up the throat that were supposed to be shoulder mounts. Needless to say communications with S&S is still poor and the outcome is still open.
Through this experience I learned one thing, the outfitters contract you sign is for their protection, not yours. So, any future contracts I sign will include items for my protection as well. THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

I hunted the Selous with them 9/10 to 9/16/01. Kobus DeWet was the PH and did quite a good job. We requested our trophies shipped last so that was not a problem. I think they run and excellent camp and had a great experience.
