Just completed a 24 day safari with Buzz Charlton in the Chewore North, Dande, and the Caborra Bossa Lake area in Mozambique. It was a splendid safari, well organized, and very productive.
Buzz is a young PH with the experience of a veteran (15 yrs) and knows his elephant hunting cold. My needs were basic, I wanted a meaningful hunting experience with lots of tracking and no concern over trophies. Being a free lance PH, Buzz can tailor safaris to you. He produced a fantastic safari which was fun as we were in elephant every day with our stalks. He always kept me in the communication loop during tracking and because I was interested gave me a 101 course on some tracking basics. Buzz has two young trackers who are very good, Cryton and Tino, and Buzz is very good himself. Every successful stalk we could have taken an elephant, but since we were hunting tuskless were limited to ele without dependent calves and only grown ele, not sub-adults. Just in the Dande alone, we tracked 17 tuskless ele that were off-limits for these reasons.

In the Chewore, we took two tuskless and one hippo on land. In Moz near the swamp islands of Caborra Bossa, we took a very large bull hippo and a monster croc. The croc are huge and plentiful and just recently have been dining on 58 natives. I highly recommend this hunt for trophy hippo + croc. Later in the Dande we took two more tuskless ele and a dugga boy buffalo. The buffalo tracking was a master piece and the trackers followed this guy over impossible terain for over two hours to locate him. What a hunt!! I will never forget it.

Unfortunately I lost the function of two of my cameras, but Buzz has posted some pics on his Buzz Charlton website. If anyone wants a real tracking experience for ele or buffalo, I highly recomend Buzz Charlton. I know he comes highly recommended on this forum and it is deserved. Oh, if anyone is curious about his hunting techniques, get a copy of his ele hunting DVD, it gives you a glimpse of his knowledge and experience.

Congratulations on a great hunt - sorry to hear about your cameras. I will look for the pictures at CMSafaris web site.

Edited:

I think this is the link to the report of your hunt over there with pictures. Well done. So your light rifle was a 450 Dakota, eh!

Congratulations Dak! I am slightly concerned though, as I will be heading to Chewore North in a few weeks, and it seems that you already wiped out everything based on the many photos on the CMS web site.

Congrats on a super hunt. Buzz is one of the best... I've enjoyed hunting with him and his team tremendously as have many other posters here.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
