Just returned from the Eastern Cape and a fantastic hunt with Bethaven African Safaris. The operation is owned by Dup Bouwer and the ranch manager and my ph was Owen Smith. I made a short hunt there in May 2001 and took a kudu, bushbuck and zebra. The used a company then to do the dip, pack and shipping. That company lost my trophies. During this hunt Bethaven had me shoot replacement trophies at no charge, in fact I took much better trophies. Dup owns over 10,000 acres and is getting ready to purchase more. He has close to 150,000 under concession with a vast diversity of habitats within a short drive of the lodge which is near Craddock. The lodge is extremely comfortable with individual bathrooms for each room and every convenience imaginable. Owen Smith, my ph, and I had a wonderful hunt. We both believe in hunting on foot so we covered alot of real estate and I took fantastic trophies; Cape Kudu 48", Cape Bushbuck 15 3/4", Klipspringer 4 1/2", Duiker 4 1/2", Common Reedbuck 14", Black Springbuck 13" One thing I need to mention is the skinning facility and the trophy salting and preparation area is as good as I have ever seen in my 9 trips to Africa. They use very fine grain salt and use a drum with a saline solution for your trophies when you hunt a long distance from the lodge. This saline solution enables the skinner to immediately skin your animal then place the skin in the solution for the drive back. You can view my pictures at South Africa 2002 Mike

Mike: Congratulations on your hunt. Hope Dup and Owen are well. On the 27th of Aug. I was able to harvest my first and probably only Nevada Antelope. Took five years to get drawn and cannot apply again for five years. Will be really old by the time that rolls around again. Anyway congratulations again and keep in touch.....Roy
