Sheesh, if you want to know whether the car was moving or not, please use a PM.

We normally try and give the buff a nudge with the bull bar and piss them off and then chase them with the vehicle

Nice buffalo, by the way

To meet the new regulations, the engine was turned off, but the car coasting.
Apparently as long as the car was moving, the buffalo would not run way.
But would as soon as the car stopped.
This is what one gets when people start hunting from stationary cars!
Terrible habit and makes it very difficult for us who enjoy buffalo hunting!
In the old days when we did not have all these silly regulations we used to shoot a couple of dozen bulls on a 22 day hunt!

RockdocGood idea to position the buff with the tyre tracks facing down.
I think not allowing the hunting truck to stop adds to the sport.

lavacaI think the regulation requiring that the engine be shut off before firing is terrible. First, it is unsporting. Have you ever tried to make a shot out of the back of a gari running 20-30kph across broken ground chasing a herd of buffalo? Well let me tell you, it is quite challenging. It would be far too easy if the gari were stopped or merely coasting.
Plus, when you are running full out, you can't use the high rack on the Hilux as a rest, as a previous poster claims to have done, another dispicable practice.
Four days for a buffalo hunt. There must have been no game on this concession.

I really did have a great safari, hunted hard, everything was very green and thick. I will post the real report in the next couple of days.

Yes it was a fenced area, how else can you raise a buffalo like the one I took. However it was 423 acres and the gates were opened twice a day to allow animals to enter. That buffalo could have left the area at that time but chose to remain. In my book that makes it fair chase.
Seems he chose how to die...

MJinesNot to thread dump or anything, but pity you elected to hunt the buffalo with a big bore double. Bell would have done the hunt properly.

No, he was still driving the Hilux. The sunroof was open so he could pass me a beer right before I shot.
In the interest of safety, I prefer to chase my buffalo with the Hilux for a couple of hours before attempting a shot. Last time I did this though, I nearly chipped a tooth on my beer bottle; I'm thinking a camelback full of wine would be a good compromise and much safer for all involved. Any thoughts?

Pure genius! It's valuable input like this, from a respected PH with on-the-ground experience, that makes AR the best African hunting site on the internet! Thanks Andrew!
