Has anyone gotten all their animals mounted in Namibia? What was the cost including shipping etc. How was the quality of the work? Thanks, Ahmed

Ahmed- I have used Reiser out of Windhoek 2X. The have been good and I would use them again. Wilko Pacheko(sp) is the contact there and is excellent in his habit of QUICKLY answering any questions via phone, fax or e-mail. If you do a search here you should come up w/their contact info.I went to their studio before having them do our work.

I had the taxidermy done at home. The dip and pack, paperwork and shipping of one crate (don`t know the weight because it was sent right to my taxidermist) was appr. 1300USD. It was 9 animals (baboon scull, warthog tusks, scull+horns+cape on kudu, oryx and hartebeest, scull+horns+full skin on klipspringer and dikdik). Not too bad I think.. We did visit two taxidermy studios, btw. Don`t remember the names but one of them was outside of Windhoek on the way towards Gobabis. I think the other was closer to Otjiwarongo. The work on both looked very good. If you`re dealing with a top notch outfitter he should set you up with a top notch taxidermist as well.. Good luck! My buddy and I just got our stuff back. He had the following completed in Namibia: 1 Kudu shoulder 1 Gemsbok shoulder 1 Hartebeast shoulder 1 Warthog shoulder 1 Zebra rug all backskins tanned His Taxidermy bill was around $2,800 I had: 1 Springbok shoulder 1 Steinbok shoulder 1 Zebra rug Variety of kudu, gemsbok hides tanned My total for that was about $800 Our shipping for all this was $2800, but it could have been less, I think, if the shoulder mounts had been packed more "tightly." So, for 6 shoulder (actually, pedestal) mounts of most of the Namibian plains game, plus 2 zebra rugs, and a pile of tanned skins and other novelties, it cost around $6400. The work looks good; I'd say equal to the average "assembly-line" shop in the US. BTW, the tanned skins are terrific. The outfit I used had their own tannery on site, and the leather (hair-off) kudu backskins they did are the best I've ever seen. Use enough gun... Shoot 'till it's dead, especially if it bites.

Texan, Where did you get the work done? Reiser? I am going to Namibia next month and still looking for a taxidermist. Also, who shipped your mounts? Texas, Our Texas

You can also send your trophies to SA, I´ll be sending mine to Safari Taxidermy in Pietersburg. I´ve used them on earlier occasions and I trust them. The cost of shipping from Namibia to SA isn´t that much.
