Outfit: African Twilight Safaris
P.H. Owner, Jaco van der Merwe
Date May 18-27 2007
Booking Agent, North Star Safaris (Sam Fett)
Travel, Gracy
Animals Hunted- Kudu, Gemsbok, Springbok, Impala
Animals Killed- Kudu, Gemsbok, Springbok, Impala, Blesbok, 2 Warthogs, Jackals, Baboon
Animals seen not hunted, Zebra,Black Wildebeast, Caracal,Duiker, Klipspringer, Red Hatebeest, Steenbok
Rifle, Remington 300 S.A.U.M.

This hunt was a long time dream of mine but I could never get anyone interested in going with me. So getting older and poorer health decided it was time.
Arrived Windhoek and was met by the P.H.'s Family as he was Leopard Hunting.
Arrived at camp (Wonderful) only hunter in camp as they take 1 party at a time. This camp is 109,000 acres and Hilly to say the least.
I met Jaco and we talked about my expectations. I told him Kudu was number 1 and Impala 2, not interested in inchs just good mature animals.
Day 1 was a mess missed Zebra and Gemsbok but saw lots of animals.
Day 2 I got my Kudu but Jaco thought we could do better and he was right as we saw several larger in the comming days, but I was thrilled.
Day 3 Springbok early (nice)
Day 4 Gemsbok (very nice)
Day 5 moved to a new camp, more flat managed a Blesbok and Warthog.
Day 6 a much larger Warthog the only thing left was Impala and we would have to travel to another camp so we just went riding and the tracker spoted Impala tracks, after a long track we returned to the vehicle and there stood 2 Impala I killed the male 22+" only one they have ever killed on this ranch.
With several days left I decided to waterhole set and saw a monster Warthog I will always be sorry I passed up.
All in all this was my trip of a lifetime made even better by Jaco, Marinda Don & wife, Thomas (driver)Hendrick (tracker)Eldrick (skinner)
and everyone else.
The service was first class, food great, equipment new.
I would recommend this place to any first timer because of their patience and price. Good record on Leopard Too + tons of game
I wish I could post pictures computer challenged

I hunted with Jaco last year with my buddy and our fathers. Great folks who put on a great hunt.

Did you take the impala on Omatara?

We had a great hunt, 11 days, four hunters, 4 differnt locations, and 26 animals taken!

Rob H.
Yes the Impala was taken in Omitara
Terry R. Yes I will go back as soon as I can talk my son into it. I think next time I will be picky and enjoy the hunt more.I missed some of the enjoyment going solo.

I too hunted with ATS in 2007. I was Rob H's buddy. What a great hunting outfit!

Your warthog is a real bruiser. I missed one like that while hunting there. I guess it was a case of "hog fever."

It's intersting that you killed your big impala on Omitara. When I was there, we saw plenty of oryx, hartebeest and warthog, but no impala.

Did you kill your Oryx on the main 109,000 acre ranch? I killed a great springbok, great kudu and beautiful zebra on that property.

Stevie,
I killed the Gemsbok on the main ranch. I started out a mess and missed several animals.
We were to go to a different area for Impala but Jaco said he had seen some on the far corner of Omitara and we lucked up and didn't have to travel to the last area.
Zebra at that time were in the high country and it was rough for me.
Because I filled out early I had a great time with Baboons and Jackals.
I saw many Springbok including a nice herd at the sight in area + a lot of Gemsbok on the main ranch.
The Warthog was small compared to the one I passed up ( what a time to be CHEAP )

That is a great gemsbok. We didn't see many of those on the main ranch, but we weren't really looking for them. We killed our gemsbok on Omitara and on another ranch just south of WDH owned by an older gentelman named "Riney." I think the name of that ranch was Lichtenstein.

I appreciate your honesty on missing a few times. The mountain zebra I bagged with ATS had 12, yes 12, rounds expended during his demise. I only had 9 rounds with me and had to finish him off with my PH's rifle. Not my finest moment.
