Please forgive my brief nature of this post. I am just at a loss for words. After returning home from my Safari on Saturday night (late), I was sent an e-mail (on Tuesday) from Elna and Huntley Ferreira regarding the loss of their son, Hendrik, in a car accident on Saturday, the day after I left Johannesburg. I spent 9 wonderful days in the field and around the fire with Hendrik, and the Ferreira made me feel at home. His father, Huntley, started the family into the Professional Hunting Business, and is a joyful good man to be around. This was a family business that worked very well, and the mutual respect was evident in the interaction between the staff and father and son. I have such wonderful memories of my Safari, Hendrik, and the time we spent hunting, eating and talking about life. These memories are so fresh with me at this time. My time hunting with him is a treasure to me, and I am fortunate for having been able to hunt with him. I look forward to continued friendship in the years to come with his family. While the hearts of his friends and family are broken, I know that Heavenly Father will accept him with open arms. I am just numb, and cannot imagine the pain his wife, children and parents are going through. Hendrik was such a kind and competent man, a family man, and an excellent PH. He was a good friend, and I will miss him. The family can be contacted through e-mail avalailable on their website, and if you have any comfort to offer, please do so, as the Funeral will be this Friday, June 4. http://www.huntleysafari.co.za/ Respectfully, Matt Ulberg Lolo, Montana Squeeze dang-it!

I don't know them, but I'm sorry for their loss. Brett DRSS Life Member SCI Life Member NRA Life Member WSF Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick. And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too. May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep. May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip. -Seth Peterson

Another lesson for us all, you never know when your life will change forever, or simply end. Like Brett, I don't know them, but as a fellow hunter I feel for the loss and grief they are having to live with. GOD Bless them Dave Fulson
