Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

We all did. It's called the impending shitstorm from all the armchair generals picking flyshit oout of pepper regarding the age of the lion, which unless carbon dated and verified by the Supreme Court, would lead to another pissing contest. The photo's posted over on 24Hr Campfire...

Jorge,
Why not post here? TGTS has been leading the way shooting 6 and greaters only (self imposed) for years. Great lion! Who was the PH? One of my best friends in the world hunts for them.

Jorge, I have respected you for years but this post thread is pure garbage IMO. If you don't want to post it, then don't. Leave the political stuff to the Political Forum.

Maybe the guys here are critical but at least they are honest, educated and passionate about the African lion.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

JBrown: Actually I did post the picture but the immediate comment gave me pause. It was posted and will you concede (as will I ) when one of us is proven correct? Here you go:

I don't have any further details as I've not received any more updates since the lion was taken two days ago. I
ve asked for particulars and once I have them I will post. jorge

Jorge - It looks like a great lion to me, congrats to the hunter/PH.

As Lane says, TGT has long since lead the way in conservation minded lion hunting - no reason to think different with this big boy!

Thanks for posting!

More on the lion; It was a chance encounter. They were on their way to the swamp for Sitatunga (more on that later) whereupon they saw him sitting atop a termite mound. They continued for a ways, stopped and stalked back for a shot. The baits had been active but nothing shootable. Talk about living well! The next day the shot a monster sitatunga. I'll post that tomorrow. j

Ill agree with you there as I just got back and used my 375 and it was perfect on steenbuck all the way to eland. Love that caliber and can't wait to use it again.

Ps great lion! Very beautiful.

Thanks!

Do you know if they are seeing huge numbers of buffalo as Moyowasi was known for back in the 90's?

Great hunt.

I will ask when my friend returns. That's his second buffalo though. He also shot a nice Eland, Zebra, Waterbuck and Oribi.

With all the body target available did you really have to demonstrate your shooting skills by blowing the trophy apart?... Big Grin
