Hi all

This is the video from our first bird hunt in Africa this year.

I have a heap more footage to edit up and so I'll post some more when I get a chance. I will also add in some details of the hunt itself when I get more organised.

Very nice FB, looks like you all had a wonderful time out there.

That lodge looked very cool as well.

How many shells did you guys and girls get through?

When I went with you last last year I think managed to get through 250 in an afternoon so I shudder to think what the total was! Big Grin

We had 10,000 shells for the week essentially between 4 guns. With some left over I think we shot about 7,000 cartridges over 6 sessions.

The lodge was very nice although I have asked for some additions to be made which should be ready in August when we go back. There will be a private hunters braai Rondaavel built and some finishing touches to the rooms.

We hunted each morning from about 7-30 till 10-30 then went out to shoot over the dogs for a while in the afternoons along with some visits to the white lion project etc.

The heavy rains this year made for access to many of the fields difficult so we were limited on a single main location for the shooting with a couple of alterations through the week according to the conditions. It can get a bit monotonous when you shoot the same field but once the birds start moving then you really just get into the groove and start shooting.

Our trips next year will probably be put back a few weeks to make sure the dry weather is with us and the access is available to a variety of fields but other than that the trip was great fun.

I shot my first 200+ bag to my gun in a session so I can't grumble too much Wink

Kiri,

As I've said before, I'm not usually a fan of most hunting videos at all (perhaps excepting the bod ones and Saeed's ones which I think are great) but I've got to say, that's one of the best I've ever seen.

It doesn't celebrate death as so many do, it clebrates life, Africa and the big smiles and dog shots make it just about as good as it could be.

Bloody well done mate! tu2

Thanks Steve,

It was a bit of a surprise when the guys turned up as I didn't plan it.

I've made some amendments for the August Video as the main aim is for the clients to be able to take a short memento back with them that reminds them of their trip and all it included. Unfortunately the guy wasn't round the braai in the evening so we missed that and all the craic that goes with it.

BTW, I'll be back on the 5th June to tie up the conservancy grounds, so if you are about that week let me know and we can have another Braai. Hopefully Susan can make it too this time.

Hey Bill,

I've been trying to call you since I got back. From what I have seen of the gamebird popuations we are in for a great hunt in August. There were heaps of young guineas in the flocks and we saw plenty of francolin. Water was spread far and wide with all the rain so the waterfowl has yet to be concentrated which will also be good for us in August.

I think I'm going to add another week on after we go if possible.

Hey Aubs, it might be me but apparently "we all look the same" Wink

The only real problem I have is when I leave RSA the pilot looks at me and says, "we need him to sit in the middle..."

Lets see if we can get you over for the braai with Steve in June. I haven't set the dates yet but I will let you know when they are done.
