I returned the other day from a hunt in Namibia with Okanduka Seibe. AR Member Robert Johnson recommended them highly and all I can say is he was correct. Like Robert says in his report (not to be repetitious), I left feeling like I got more than I paid for. The food, accommodation, new friends, and wonderful hunting are hard to top. Rita was the perfect hostess and found time to bring my wife to Etosha and Swakopmund! Dirk is a first rate PH and I learned a lot hunting with him. The trophy quality is incredible.

I would reccomend Okanduka Seibe as well as Dirk and Rita to anyone. This was my second African Hunt and I can’t wait to get back.

Glad you had a great trip. I still find it hard to believe its possible to hunt world class trophy animals for $165 a day! How many people do you know that have shot a 42"- 43" Oryx and a 16" Springbok on the same trip. I know of one person Randy, he shot a 43" Oryx and a 17" Springbok with Dirk recently. I know a 60 " Kudu will be shot on this ranch next May- June ( Rut).

Dirk and Rita are genuinely nice honest people. I can wait I am booked for the month of September 07

I was on a business trip to Egypt and South Africa so I did not bring a rifle, due to logistical difficulty. Dirk, my PH lent me a custom Mauser 375 H&H with swarovski scope. A beautiful rifle.

Thanks again for the information on Dirk and Rita's operation, and for taking the time to answer my questions, we had a great time. As for a 60" Kudu, I know there is at least a 58"+ still there. The morning I got mine, Dirk was telling me to shoot "the one on the left". I thought I did but apparently there was another one further to the left (and directly in front of the sun) that I never saw. Dirk told me he was at least 58" maybe a bit more. He should still be around.

Those are the exact species I'm looking for on my next safari. However, I would also like to possibly include a black wildebeest if possible. Did you see any or does Dirk have access to a black wildebeest?

Dirk did not have any Black Wildebeest on the property, but has access to a ranch nearby with some. In the lodge there is a shoulder mount of one that would be SCI #4 which Dirk took on that ranch. I cannot say enough about the quality of the Okanduka, the trophies and Dirk and Rita.

I’ll see if I can post some of my buddy’s pictures, especially of the Eland he took. It was huge!

Wow! What a bag! Great trophies! I`m a bit envious on that caracal. We tried a bit calling when I hunted Namibia last year, but no sucsess. Can you please tell me the story behind the little cat?

It was pure luck, and a target of opportunity. Around 7 AM we were driving out from the lodge to continue what had become a difficult Hartebeest hunt. About ½ mile from the lodge, we saw the Caracal running. Dirk, my PH told me to grab my rifle and shoot, which I did, missing the first shot. At the miss the Caracal (unexpectedly) slowed, giving me a better shot opportunity. The second shot hit the mark, stopping him in his tracks. Unfortunately, I was shooting a 375 H&H which made for a decidedly unclean kill, which is why there is straw covering up most of the cat in the picture. Dirk was happy to have me take it, as they kill the Springbok, and he had found a Springbok kill nearby and believed it to be from this cat. That would also explain why it was out in the daytime. Interestingly, the night before we took the Caracal, my wife and I heard what sounded like a cat killing something nearby the lodge. I can not be sure, but I think we heard the Springbok being killed by the Caracal.

In addition, Dirk has good numbers of Cheetah on his property. We came across one several days earlier and it presented a shot. I refused the opportunity as we cant’ bring them into the US anyway, but my buddy missed a 250+ yard shot at it.

I guess sometimes its better to be lucky than good!

I am also very impressed with your caracal! And a good shot too! Tell me your going to be able to mount the fellow. It would be heart breaking to take a cat like that and not be to mount it!

I am sorry to report that the Caracal will not be mounted. I had hoped to have it fully mounted but the cost ($750) was prohibitive. I had spent my yearly allowance on the trip and have a kid in college. As it turned out, we did not think the taxidermist would be able to repair the damage from the .375 anyway, as he was quartering away at a jog and I hit him further back than I hoped. His skull will have a place of honor in my small trophy room, near his picture. That’s the best I can do.

My buddy is still talking about the stalk on the Eland and his great shot!

Atticus, what was the average shot distance that you took in Namibia?

The shots were 100 meters +-. The exception being the Hartebeest, which was around 300.

You got some huge animals. The curls on the kudu are quite interesting. Congratulations on some fine animals.

Dirks updated web site gives you a better idea what the inside of his lodge looks like. Hopefully he will add a few more pictures of the ranch and animals available. His ranch is truly one of the best remote hunting properties in Namibia.
