So what are the pros and cons of the UL 50? http://www.ultralite50.com/order.html Not sure I need a 50 but it would give me an excuse to get an AR __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

I have often wondered how long an AR-15 lower could take the recoil. Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war; That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial.

I would strongly advise against this weapon. Having owned a couple of lightweight 50s in the past, all I can say is that I have developed a new appreciation for the weight of such a powerful weapon. One 50 that I owned was slightly heavier than the heaviest model being offered here and each shot felt like I had been punched in the side of the head. It was not pleasant but with AP ammo was useful in the manufacture of gravel from large boulders in the deserts of northern Utah. Following the sale of this weapon (at a tidy profit no less), I decided it would be great to have a REALLY light one! It was not great. Now I have moved on and am having an 8-bore muzzleloader built (it will be sufficiently weighty). I am a slow learner but I do learn. Best, JohnTheGreek

I have MartyTW's 458 socom on a DPMS SS Lower. If both parts are machined to spec the recoil should go into the ring for the mainspring tube, and not into the pins. If you're concernd, I'd go with the steel lower. The weight difference isn't enough to take the sting out but it does weigh a little more. DPMS also sells a 3.5 lb lead weight for the buttstock. Of course if this was going to be a dedicated .50 you could fill the mainspring tube with a lead dowel and really take some bite out of the beast. Best-o-luck

Pretty much. Of course the point being where the stress of recoil is focused, not so much the amount. (smart alec)

they shoot great, i have 1 of hit first made.. its about 15# i just added some lead shot in the stock with a good recoil pad it kicks the same as a 12 guage. vid of me shooting it offhand with the old stock when it was lighter http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=ul50-offhand a ar reciver will hold up fine.. ferret 50's have been around a long time, and those never hurt a ar lower..

I browsed the site and saw it can be chambered in 50 Spotter, is it that common? any dies set for .50 Spotter or it is necessary to modify a .50 BMG dies set ?

I have no idea how common the 50 spotter is. I picked up a few rounds of 50 bmg a few years back, and you know how it goes. What good is a few rounds of ammo with nothing to shoot them out of __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

You definitely need to buy one in such a case

50 Spotter necked to 458; now we're talking! I think MartyW has the drawing but I don't know how accessible cases are. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Is the spotter still in use? I only remember it on the old 106 RR. They were on the Ontos as well, 1 for 3 guns. Only time I saw the spotter. Semper Fi WE BAND OF BUBBAS STC Hunting Club

The Spotter is not in use that I know of, but the brass can be had. The 50 Spotter AI with modern faster powders can actually duplicate the 50BMG from shorter barrels in terms of FPS but you get what you ask for - you just changed the recoil from a "shove" to a a "snap". As TiggerTate mentioned, 458-50 SPotter AI would make a heck of a DG round
