I read in the paper the other day that the Honolulu Police Department has a bill to ban the civilian ownership of the 50 BMG Rifle and Ammunition in Hawaii and if you already own one you cant transfer it according to the new bill. As if Hawaii doesnt already have some of if not the strictest gun laws in the Nation My God!!! This pisses me the hell off and what makes it even worse they are introducing it under a guise for Public Safety COME ON PEOPLE!!! Sometimes I wonder who should be taking psychological and mental exams this stuff drives me nuts. Hunting its not a Hobby its My Way of Life!!!

Can't shoot them at KOKO Head or CR2 A at Schofield anymore so I don't think there is anywhere that you are able to shoot them anymore, just as I wanted to see about maybe getting an AR 50 from Armalite too. Aloha Ultramag, At least our HPD was more technically specific. As in some other areas of the country, there have been and are attempts to illegalize ALL firearms over 50 cal. I heard that California bans 50 BMG which I think is .510 bore diameter and now custom wildcats are being made @.499 bore based on the same 50 BMG case. Our non-technical legislators will create havoc with big bore enthusiasts if there is no clarification and allowance for anything over a half inch. It is sad to say but our legislature thinks it's fashionable to follow California. Geoff Shooter

.50 BMG bore diameter is .500". Projectile diameter is .510". Projectile is engraved .005" when fired. "The irony is, if you're willing to kill a perpetrator, you probably won't have to." Massad Ayoob

So the .510 projectile is also swaged to .500 when traveling thru the bore. Now, can I assume that swaging another .001 in a .499 bore is no big deal as respects pressure? If so, then the same 50 BMG ammo can be used? Geoff Shooter

No, not in CA, but there are currently two CA legal .50s to replace the .50 BMG. The .50 DTC Europ, developed for European .50 shooters who can't have NATO chamberings, and a variation on that wildcat, the .50 DTC EDM, (listed the on drawing as EUROP, but it is different), currently offered by EDM Arms for CA .50 shooters. Both have the .50 BMG as the parent case, but neither will chamber in a .50 BMG chamber and a .50 BMG cartridge will not chamber in one of these rifles. Case capacity is the same. Difference between the two wildcats is the DTC Europ has a radius to the shoulder similiar to a WBY, the EDM version does not. The law in CA banning .50 BMG defines the cartridge and chambering exactly to spec, so anything that will chamber a spec cartridge is banned and if it won't, it's not. .500" bore diameter rifles are not banned just because of the bore diameter. Perhaps Hawaii should join Canada. We have those same stupid laws. However, we are trying to change that, along with our Lieberal Govt. derf Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati

One law over here in Hawaii that I thought was kinda funny(or weird) is about one of Browning's 22 Semi Auto pistols with a wooden forend, it is illegal but take the wooden forend off and it is legal. Desert Eagles are legal with the 6 inch barrel but not with a 14 inch barrel, I'm not sure about the 10 inch barrels. I have been here since 1991 and it has only gotten worse here. Steve E......... Why exactly are 50 BMG's not allowed at Kokohead anymore? I heard it was because some fool tried to shot at a rock near the top of the crater rim. Is this true? Are all 50 cals banned, or only the 50 BMG? Whenever I go to Hawaii, I always bring a few guns to shoot there. Not sure why they were banned but I think it covers any similar round. You still can shoot stuff like the .50 AE and the .500 S&W as far as I know so I don't think the ban covers just the bore size. I was getting interested in an Armalite AR 50, but that would be an expensive wall hanger over here. I'll probably go down there this weekend and if i do I'll try to remember to ask them about the .50 Cal. Steve E.......... Ranb40- Yes you are correct, The round richocet and ended up in a house in Kalama valley which is on the other side of that hill. And yes you can still fire .50 caliber weapons there just not the .50 BMG I just shot a .50 Beowulf there recently. Aloha!!! Hunting its not a Hobby its My Way of Life!!!
