There is an article on the Max in the April Handloader that may be of interest to some. Of course the shooting was done in the pistol TC actually produces today, but us Contender shooting, 357 Max devotees can still take heart and enjoy the information presented.
Too bad some folks out there tried to make a 357 "swift" in the revolver killed the round before it's time.

Maybe if we brought it back in todays climate as the 357 "short/long/ultre" Mag folks would flock to the performance it has provided all along! [Roll Eyes]
As an aside, if there is anyone out there who shoots the Max in a revolver I would like to hear if it really cuts the top strap any more than the hot loads normally fired in the mag chamberings.

Is there any chance of anyone scanning that and getting it emailed to me? I'm underway and have no way other than electronically of getting it? If someone could help me out, I'd appreciate the assistance.

I just finished reading the 357 Max article. Trust me if no one scans it and the article doesn't get it sent to you, you really will have NOT missed much.

I'm sorry I did not look at the article closer before I bought the magazine, since I bought it specifically because I saw the 357 Max article listed. [Frown]

Hopefully the mag will have some redeeming value in another article!

The article was pretty weak, at one point the author was happy to get 2-3" groups at 35 yards with a 15" barrel and 2-7x scope!! That barrel should be a tent peg if that's all the better it will put out. And really liked the Encore for this round more than the Contender. Just me but I can't justify all the extra weight of the Encore for this round.

I've never had the max in a revolver but heard that the flame cutting was limited?

IMHO...that article sucked. Handloader is usually a decent rag but they need flogged for publishing something as weak as that.

I long for the days when Handloader accepted technical articles from the average Joe experimenter.

They were far more thought provoking, interesting and informative.

Just a confirmation of my decision to let the subscription go. I guard my older issues as gold.

The 1994 article on the Max by an independant writer, was excellent by contrast.

Hey Headstamp, what's the chances of you scanning that 1994 article and sharing it. I for one would be interested in reading it. If yo uscan it I can turn it into a Acrobat PDF file to make it easier to print out.

Headstamp,
If you can do that, I too would be interested in seeing it. If not, thanks for the thoughts anyway.

Guys, Headstamp is in the process of e-mailing me the scanned pages of the .357 max. article he was talking about. I'm not sure if he has been e-mailing it out to anyone else too. I am putting the scanned images into PDF format and then all the pages into one file. It will be much easier to read it and print it out. If anyone that hasn't seen it would like this file. Just drop me an e-mail and it will be sent your way. This file will be fairly large (approx. 4 meg).

If you don't have Acrobat reader (free download) to read a PDF file I am posting the link for it below as well as my e-mail address.

Yeah, 2-3" groups @ 35 yards is terrible. One thing about Thompson Center is that they're using the same twist on their .357 Max barrels as they do on the standard .357 Mag. As a result, I can't get good accuracy with heavy bullets such as the 200 grain Speer. The groups do tighten up with 158s, but in the end I wish they had used a slower twist.

No self respecting tent peg would want to be associated with a barrel such as that. 2-3" groups at 35 yards with a 15" barrel and 2-7x scope? I see T/C is meeting and exceeding their quality control again..... [Eek!]

Alpo,
I sent the e-mail to the address on your e-mails. It was kicked back twice. I just finished sending it again to the e-mail address you have listed here in your profile. Let me know if you get it or if there is another e-mail I can send it to.

Thanks
