i just purchased a .444 marlin barrel from ed at ed's tcs. i was wondering if you know of any good loads to shoot from a short(10")444 marlin barrel.factory ammo around here costs me $1.10 every time i pull the trigger and that gets deep into the pocket very quickly. any loads that have worked well for you in the past would be appreciated.

Good loads and 10" barrel is sort of a contradiction of terms. If you had asked me first, I would have said to avoid it almost like the plague. After you shoot it a little, I doubt you will maintain much interest in it. It is really a waste. Too much powder, too slow, in too short of a barrel to do much good.

I have seen loads using 4227, and I would think that it would work as well as any in the short barrel, but have no first hand info to offer.

If you want max. hp from a 10" in .44, then .445 Super Mag is much better. Its smaller case is better suited to the short barrel.

Sorry I cannot be more supportive.

Mike
