ok guys...
i read on another post...bout how the .35 remington in a marlin 336 ...it's ok for deer,,

but chamber the same thing in a contender,,,???
now we've got a elk cartridge,,???

whoever posted that made a good point.

my feelings are with who's behind the trigger, how close, and how you place your shot,

my old marlin .35 will print 1.5 at 100...so will my 14'' .357 herrett..

who's right ?? [Confused]

The .35 Rem is a veteran in Contender chamberings. In some TC chambers, it can be finicky...no, make that problematic. But in a good chamber, it comes pretty close to what the lever carbines can produce.

Yes, elk have been taken with it, but the .357 Herrett has taken its share as well. It all boils down to the shooter's ability, the selection of the proper bullet for the job and putting the bullet in the prescribed spot.

Provided one knows the limitations of their chosen cartridge, and lives inside of them, then there is no reason not to use "light" rounds for a given animal.

The biggest problem is communication, or lack thereof between hunters. Hunter A assumes given range and shot placement, and isn't willing to accept cartridges that won't measure up to his needs/desires.

Single shot pistol shooters by and large are more picky about their shots, which allows "lighter" rounds to be used.

Interesting thing about the .35 Rem... Quite possibly the best chamber in factory barrels, especially in larger bores. At least that's what I've been told... However, it's also the one that I've heard the most complaints about mis-fires. I know I had a lot of trouble - till I learned not to neck size 'em. Now - if that don't start a war, nothin will.
