The first day of shooting and breaking in all loads that I shot at 100yds did a tad over 1/2 to a little under 1 1/2 for 5 shots. Some of the shot some of the best 3 out of the 5 come in at 1/4 to 1/2.

No pressure signs at all.Recoil is damn heavy it lifts the gun and twist it to left.Muzzel blast well people next to me it moves there stuff on the table up to 4 tables down.Last I shot it I shot the 300RUM first and then shot my 375/284 SSK XP-100 that is ported it is a pussy cat.

I am still reloading hotter and going to move the bullet out to the lands. The first set of loads I did I used the same O.A.L. as in my 700PSS.

NO TAKERS ON SHOOTING IT YET!!!!!!!!

SO DO ANY OF YOU HAVE ANY PET LOADS FOR THE 300RUM BE GLAD TO HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SHOOTING AND WHAT VELOCITY YOU ARE GETTING.i ALMOST FOR GOT ALL HAVE LOST 535 TO 545 FPS FROM BY 26" BARREL RIFLE TO THE 16" PISTOL.

My Xp is 8 pounds,16"barrel no port,1 1/16" at the muzzel,H S stock,and a new 3x12 Burris,with the fine rectile,and target turrents,Leupold bases and rings.

Any thought and comments.

I'm glad you are having fun with your new toy. My patriot has a 15 1/2 inch barrel. You are just outrunning me with the 150's. My load of 66.0 grains of H-4350 with a 180 grain Sierra Game King is yet to be chrongraphed. I will let you know when I get that accomplished. Probably at the clinic. I'm so far behind in load development and chronographing I will end up doing some of that at the clinic during off times. Demands at work have been more than usual the last three weeks.
I just hope my 180 grain loads are the 2,700-2,800 range. I have yet to try the 200 grain bullets yet.
If I was close, I would be happy to pull the trigger on that puppy! Wish you (and number of other guys) could be at the clinic.

WOOOOW 85 to 90 grs of powder for the 180gr bullet and the best it would do is 2715fps.I only burned 70grs of powder in my 300mag for 2687fps with a 180gr bullet. The factory 180gr went 2720fps.I think the 300mag was worth cutting down to 16.5" what do you think..?

Xp yes i am having fun and I wish I could go to.Yes I am moving faster but burning a lot of powder to do it.
MSSmagnum yes it is very inlighting to compare the 06,300WM,and the 300RUM in close to the same length barrel I would have thought that the 300WM would have been closer more efficent powder column.
T/C NUT Yes I am burning a lot of powder. But I knew that I would to get out of it what I had hoped which I am still a little shy of.But every thing else had been done with XP.XP's patriot and fiftydrivers 338WSM so there was no place to go but up.I belive now that both of there case are a lot more efficent there velocity loss is less than mine.I am still hoping for around 3000fps with the 180gr.Only 180fps more to go.Plus as for as burning powder with this big case you have to load high to get it to be consistant velocity. The next thing is where to go from here.A 375RUM XP not if I am going to lose 545fps not worth it I don't think but then I was told not to do this. Now I have a 8 pound pistol. But when it goes off and you see the look on people faces it's priceless.

Time to reload

I see you are using NBT's in your test.I was using Speer Soft point BT's in my test with the 300mag and '06.In my 15" '06 when I used NBT's I got about 70fps more over the soft points.I have not tried NBT's in the 300mag yet.I'll test some and see if I get more velocity.I'll also test some slower and some faster powder as well.I'm glad your having fun don't get me wrong.

Handcannon,

Well, it sounds like your well on your way with the 300 RUM project. I have been up to my ears with all the different angles trying to get my shop open by this fall. Things are coming together now though. Just have to clear a few things up with the bank and its go time.

My favorite load for my 300 RUM in the M700 is actually a couple different loads. Both use H1000. The first is with 102.0 gr over a Fed-215M primer which gives me 3350 fps. The other is 100.0 gr over the standard Fed-215. This load is good for 3340 fps. From the testing I have done, the standard Fed-215 is quite a bit hotter then the match primer accounting for basiclally the same velocity with two gr less powder.

Anyway, when I was testing my 338 WSM I was told to use powders in the burn rate of 4350 and Rl-19. These did alright with very good accuracy but velocity was a bit lower then I had hoped, in the 2700-2800 fps range with the 180 gr B.Tip. I did a little research and realized that a faster powder in that bore would allow more velocity if max loads were approached with caution.

That is why I use Rl-15 now and get 2950 fps with the 180 gr B.Tip. The biggest advantage for velocity that the 338 has over the 300 is its larger bore allowing use of quicker powders.

If I were you, test some powders that you may think are a little to fast for your 300 RUM. They have to be used carefully as pressures can become a real problem, but they will increase velocities over the standard slow burners.

When I get started up I am going to try the 338 RUM in a 16" barrel just to compare the WSM with the RUM to see if there is any velocity increase.

Try them and see what happens, also, they tend to cut muzzle blast a bit as well. Only problem in a case your size, you may get greater velocity spreads. From the groups your getting now, sounds like you could just pick a load and go.

Good SHooting

Hey fiftydriver,Yes so foar very happy with it.It is way to heavy for a pistol but what the hell.I have been thinking of going up to a little faster powder but still not giving up hope on my 180bt going 3000fps.

I still have that one project in mind that I want you to do for me.The 375/284 SSK XP into 375RUM need to do little more research on it to make sure that is what I want.I like to be able to get the Nosler 260gr BT to expand in my XP.My .50 project is on the backburner dont see any reason to do it yet.So keep me in mind when you get up and running.

What exactly is a 300 RUM?

I'm working up a load for my 300 WSM, so I'll be comparing my loads to yours to see where I stand.

Thanks for the info.

Handcannons,

THe shop is just about to have the ground broke on it, Once thats finished, I hope no more then a month or two, crossing my fingers, I will get the machines and tools.

Target goals for start time are late August early September. With these types of things though, it rarely works out so well. I have done alot of research on my business though so I should have most of the big problems headed off before they get started.

I was thinking of your 375 RUM project the other day and was wondering if the 35 RUM would not be a better choice. The 250 gr Ballistic Tip would certainly open up at 35 RUM handgun velocities and with the newer premium bullets, it would be more then up to any big game hunting.

Some thing to think about if you want to deal with a wildcat, pretty tame one to get tooled up for. Easy to make anyway.

Anyway, better get back to work, have three trigger jobs to do tonight.

Keep me informed with your 300 RUM. I am very interested in the results.

Good Shooting!!!
