Maybe I am doing something wrong but I have had Contenders (3) for 27 years and have changed exactly two springs. This would include guns that are used extensively for shooting pds with many hundreds of rounds per weekend. My .221 FB has been fired a minimum of 3000 rds. and has never not fired or been unsafe for a spring problem. My other TCs have also been used alot with no known problems. I had springs replaced when I had a 'easy open conversion' done on a couple of them. What exactly happens to them ?

skb2706, that's interesting. I wonder if it is just because my Contender frame is old that it goes through them. My springs just break and the hammer just flops around. I haven't had any problems with with any of the other springs. Slim

My frames go from the five digit serial number (late seventies I think) to the first ones after the fire 49xxxx series. The two older ones have had the easy open conversion with a total replacement of the trigger group. When they were in their original set up I had trouble with the hammer.....both split thru the serrated thumb section. TC repaired this and did the easy open thing at no charge. But when they did it they basically gut the gun and replace everything.....that may be why I never had any trouble with hammer springs...that or dumb luck.

| You should not have to change the hammer spring very often, in my opinion.
I own two Contender frames. I shoot silhouette competition and therefore shoot them a lot. My oldest frame has had over 6000 rounds shot through it in the last 10 years and I have only had to replace the hammer spring one time. The newer frame I bought used so I do not know how much it had been shot. However, I have put a couple thousand rounds through it and have not touched any springs at all on that one.
Sounds like you have a problem, though I am not sure what it is.

I know that there maybe a problem with the spring if you have the Pacmeyer grips. I understand that the back leg of the spring may rub against the grip leading to premature demise of the spring. I am planning on getting a G2 frame. Maybe I should get it sooner than I expected and send the old one off to T/C or Mike Bellm for some tender loving care. Slim
