Anyone have info on the 357 Herrett in 10 " tube ? Wondering about velocity/terminal performance of 180 Hornady ssp or any other suggested deer bullets. Will be forming cases from .375 Win. brass. Thanks Guys
Be sure you have enough neck clearance, with a bullet seated, in the chamber first before you go buying a ton of 375 brass. You may have to turn necks. If they don't fit or just fit with 358 bullets, you may try a 357 bullet like the 180 Hornady HP to gain some more clearance depending on your situation.
I would imagine you'll be fine with any of the 158 soft points, 180 HP's, 180SSP bullets and possibly the 200 gr. RN's (if you don't stretch the range too far with the 200's)
My rechambered 10" Max barrel is on the lower velocity end running 180's at about 1850FPS so you are probably looking at around 2000 or so with them in the Herrett with the added recoil.
Should make a nice barrel with the right combination of components.
For a scope mount on a factory 10" bbl contour, you might try a double dovetail base like the Leupold or Burris and Burris Signature Rings with the plastic inserts. They really hold once they take a "set" without crushing the scope tube.
dc with my 357 Herrett 10" BBL I get 2047 fps with a 180gr Nolser PAR bullet and 2153 fps from 150gr Remington this is with H4227 Powder and 375 Winchsester brass
Headstamp Yes this is a factory chamber. A Min clearance of .004. My chamber open the neck of the brass about .010. The 375 brass is about .004 thick at the neck then the 30-30 brass is. I use the 375 brass in my 30 Herett and in my 7-30 Waters
