Okay,

I will be home in less than a week and have a 15" 250-3000 AI barrel waiting for me. I plan on using it for Coyote (light bullet) and Antelope and Mule Deer (heavier bullet).

Any suggestions for either or both??

I was thinking about the 85 grain Nosler Bal tips for light and 100 grain Nosler Partitions for heavier. Sound about right??

Anyone have any pet loads and fire forming loads??

H4895 is a great powder in the 250AI. I like Imr 4320 and 4064 also. Fireforming is easy with factory fodder..but if you have a long throat you can have issues with case life. I like to fireform with long bullets seated close to the lands to keep streach to a minimum.

For light weight bullets I like the Hornady 87 grain with 40 grains of 4895, I use the same charge with the old 75 gr X bullet, An accurate deer load is 33.5 gr of Imr4320 with the 117 gr Hornady SST or Nosler BT..not a top end load but very accurate in my 15 in bull barrel. I have worked up close to 257 BOB loads so far and have not seen any pressure indications. I am going up slowly and the little 250 AI case is starting to impress me a good bit. I will shortly have a rifle length tube in this chambering,it is one of the better AI improvements.

Actually, one bullet could do it all for you: the 100 grain Ballistic Tip.

I am at work and don't have my load data available, but Re-15 has been my go-to powder for both the .250 and the AI version as well. Nothing else topped its velocity and accuracy in a number of guns.

monty,

I wouldn't listen to anything Bobby said unless it was about the 6.5.
Just kidding (settle down Bobby) Bobby is one of the better experienced loader on here. When he tells me something about a 6.5 I believe it. I think he has a weeee bit of 250 knowledge also. LOL. Hope everything is going alright for you Bobby.

Hey, Steve! Thanks for the kind words (now I will have to enlarge the door frame to get my big head through it ha ha)

Good to see you posting -- hadn't seen you around the forum in a while. Hope all is well with you.

Things are going OK for me. Got a nice public land buck recently and am hoping to bag one near my home as well, though the season is quickly slipping away.

But back to the .250 AI...

My best accuracy loads were as follows:

85 grain Ballistic Tip, 41 grains Re-15, Fed 210 in a fireformed R-P case

100 grain Ballistic Tip, 39.5 grains Re-15, Fed 210 in a FF R-P case

From a 24" barrel, the 85 grain BT with the load above will give you app. 3300 fps. The 100 grain BT will be around 3125 fps. From a 15" barrel, you should be around 3050-3075 fps with the 85 grainer and 2850 fps with the 100 grainer.

As to fireforming, just be sure you fully form the brass on the first go-round. Use a powder that's bulky enough to fill the case yet quick enough to afford ample pressure to form the brass.Using a bullet that can reach the lands, this scenario will give you the best possible support for the case and allow to to enjoy maximum case life (assuming good loading practices thereafter).
