'm sure VVG will fix you up to your satisfaction, but for the benefit of others with similar fit problems, hopefully you will get something from this.

All the best,

Mike

I talked with Jeff at V V on Tuesday and the barrel did have short headspace. The dies were fine and the problems was as I thought. I did get something from this. The barrel has been fixed and is on the way back to me. Jeff was a gentleman and did admit the problem was not myself but the way the barrel was chambered. What I got from this was to listen to myself when something was wrong and not experts whom had nothing to do with the barrel in the first place. I have since bought another barrel from Virgin Valley and may buy more in the future. Thanks Jeff for being honest. Will buy more from V V again.

OK, good to know that in fact the chamber was short. But for the sake of general principles, let's consider a luscious barrel... yes, some can be luscious.... [Big Grin] ..... in a caliber you have been lusting for at a super good price you just can't pass up! [Eek!] AND it happens to be one made by Ingram, Marsh-Al's, or Texas Contenders, all of which are out of business. You do not have the good graces of a current barrel maker to handle a problem such as you encountered.

There are quite a few of these early barrels still floating around, btw, so this hypothetical is not so far out.

You have a choice after you make the investment and discover the problem to either do battle returning it to the seller, paying another shop to fix it, or applying your understanding of chambers to deal with it as it is.

My point is that we rely too much on "standards" at the expense of failing to understand our guns. In your instance, taking a few thousandths off the end of the die would let it push the shoulders back to the point needed to allow proper headspacing.

If no such warranty exists, I suggest simply making ammo to fit the chamber, which is usually quite simple to do.... I do it all the time, and it need not be some dark, guarded secret.

Standards and guages are great for the guy who shoots only factory ammo, but need not hamstring the guy who reloads when a problem is encountered.

Glad to see you are up and running again, Tommy.

All the best.... Mike
