Well, I FINALLY had a slight break from work and got to do a bit of shooting early this morning. I've been wanting to try the Berger 65 grainers w/ the J4 jackets in the 21" custom shop 6 TCU -- and I've had 'em loaded up for some time. By far, the best load was 28 grains of BenchMark, which produced 3034 fps @ 15 feet. Accuracy for 3 different 5-shot, 100 yard groups ranged from .383 to .570. Other loads were in the 3/4 to 1-inch range.

I've used the Berger MEFs for varmints, and they are simply fantastic. But I have never punched anything other than paper with the standard 65 grainers. I'm going to run a couple of simple expansion tests with them, but simply looking at the serrations in the jacket tells me they should come unglued at a rate that will do no good for a coyote's health.

Have any of you guys used the standard Bergers (not the MEFs) on varmints, and how have they done for you?
