Shot my 300 WSM XP over the weekend.It was still hot and very humid.

Had some very interesting things happen.

First my loads that are at max and should not be shot in the heat shot only 25fps faster and pressure seem a little higher but not much.It is pushing 180 Nosler BT Moly coated at 2750 over the weekend it was going 2775fps.

That was for loads from a old batch that I had loaded.I loaded some more from a new can of powder last week,and took them with me.Only shot it twice and I had to take a broom handle and tap it(not very hard just a couple of taps)to get the brass out first velocity was 2975fps and the other was 3145fps me and the gun are still here.Then shot my old loads and they shot the same as they did early that day.Funny thing was that all 6 shots where alittle over a 1 1/2" at 200yds 3 of the where touching didn't see which one was more worried about the gun. Be safe out there in this heat. Wade

Wade, where are you checking for pressures signs? Are you micing them or just looking at them? Those velocities seem a little high for out of a handgun. Atleast according to what I have read. I am probably wrong. Slim

Slim;
You are right they are high I get between 4 and 6 loads out of new brass.

The load with the new lot of powder I got the one load only.

These are max loads for damn sure.That is the reason that you do not see any data listed.Once I get back to 2650 and 2700fps I hope that it will be fine.Just have been working up to the max.Damn thing is it shoots better groups at the higher velocity.Just going to have to back off abvout a grain or so.Maybe more with the new lot of powder. 2700 FPS with a 180 grain bullet out of a handgun, and I would have the perfect elk round. I am only getting 2600 FPS out of my 257 Roberts with a 100 grain bullet. It has been my experience that faster is alway better, to the point of explosion that is. [Razz] Slim

Looks like I am going to need to back my loads off a little.

Talked to a few people and they said to start all over and work my way back up.That there is no way that I should be getting that velocity out of that gun.I wanted a 150gr bullet at 3000fps and a 180gr bullet at 2750 to 2800fps.The 150gr bullets are only 50fps faster that the 180gr.Wade

Wade for what its worth I have had very good luck with RL 19 and CCI 250M primers. I found the Winchester primers to be loose in even the new Win brass Go figure! I have not messed with tubes under 24" yet though.
Good Luck
Dave
