Kyode, can you tell me a little about your 6mmBR Encore? Have you killed anything with it? Do you also have a 6mm Contender? You replied to my 12" barrel question and I would like a litttle more detail. Anyone else feel free to jump in. [Wink]

Verno,
I'm not Kyode and I don't have an Encore 6 BR, but I do have a Contender 6X50R Bellm. [Wink] I've been pleased so far w/ my barrel. It's VERY accurate; in fact, it's been hard to find a load it won't shoot sub-MOA w/. [Big Grin] See my previous post for the report on my first deer hunt w/ the caliber. Do you have specific questions in reference to the 6 mm's? Gary T.

I guess I do have specific questions but I'm not sure what they are or should be. I have an older post about a 12" Contender or Encore barrel for shooting animals under 100 pounds to a max range of 200 yards. I prefer this length of barrel. I have polled some of our popular custom shops with this question and got a variety of answers.
1. 6mmBr
2. 6mm TCU
3. 6.5/225, 300 Whisper, 30/223
4. 6.5/30-30, 7-30 Waters, 25/30-30
#3 Suggested that a 6mm was a bit to small, even for the game I described. So I am a bit confused on what to get. I assume it will come down to personel preference. I have had a 14" 7-30, I do have a 15" 25/30-30 that is deadly on a good rest, I also have a 15" 7-08 thats good with a good rest but recoil is a little harsh to suit me. Its easily handled but probably not needed. I was leaning towards the 6 TCU, they seem to be very accurate. Van Horn has a tapered 14" 6/225 that should handle like a shorter barrel. Sorry to ramble but you guys know how this gets with these barrels! Thanks

Verno, hows it goin? i've got the 6br encore. it's a 13" stainless virgin valley custom guns barrel. i got it during their shorty barrel sale. i love the thing. don't let anyone tell you it's to small for a 100lb. animal. thats ridiculous. i killed a small doe with mine at about 125 yards. she dropped right there. i used a 80gr sierra single shot pistol bullet. bullet performance was excellent. i wouldn't hesitate to use it on bigger deer within 200 yards. bullet choice is important on stuff like deer. the single shot bullets from sierra and hornady were designed for deer out of 6mm handguns. so far i've only got the one load worked up. it's a max load of H322(per sierra handgun manual) with the 80gr sierra sspb. i shot 5 shots at 100 yards that measured .850" center to center with dial calipers. i think it will do better than that even, but thats as far as i've got with it.
i've also got a 6tcu super 14 contender factory barrel but i havn't got around to shooting it yet. just loaded some fireforming loads for it the other day.
about 8-10 years ago i had a 15" 6x47mm bullberry contender. H322 worked well in it also with a 80 gr sierra sspb.
another bullet to consider in 6mm is the 80gr sierra blitz. i contacted sierra and they said it should work perfect in a 6tcu on deer.
i've also got a 15" 7-08 encore. it was intimidating at first. but now it's not bad at all. just load it down a little with 40gr of H4895 and 120gr nosler bt. i killed a button buck at 250 yards with that load. i was amazed that i made it. but i had a perfect sandbag rest. the deer went about 20 yards and fell. don't know what the velocity is but i would guess 2400-2500 fps. it is a noticable decrease in recoil compared to a 7-08 rem. 120gr hp factory load, which i did chrono at 2700fps. hope this helps. any more quetions just holler.
oh yeah, another buddy of mine took a doe with his 6tcu at 160 some yards. he recovered the animal not far away but he says bullet performance was lacking. it was the 80gr rem plhp bulk bullet. bullet choice is a major player in the 6mm's on larger game, IMO.
Two top notch choices,IMO, 6mmBR encore and 6tcu contender.

VERNON;
I got a 6BR from Bullberry about 5 months ago, its a 22 inch full bull SS with a match chamber, the only loads I've fired in it so far is fire form loads with several types of bullets, Berger 65,70,74,& 80gr match, Sierra 80gr ssph,and Hornady 75gr HP. The worst group I've shot so far was with the 80gr Berger and it was .800 and the best one was .300 with the 65gr Berger and this was the only group less than .500 I've shot with this barrel so far, most groups where in the .650 to .750 range, all groups where 5 shots at 100 yards using a benchrest, I've shot one hog with it at 140 yards that showed up on the range one day when I was fireing. My 6TCU is a Contender 15" from Fox Ridge and I've had it for a good number of years, I shoot Berger 65gr bullets in it and it will shoot .500 if I do my part off the bench at 100 yards, and again the only game I've shot with it is hogs, the longest shot so far was 210 yards, all the hogs hit with it have dropped on the spot even with bad hits at all distances.
