Well the weathers changing and I'm thinking I better start looking towards winter, cleaning the gutters, sealing up the shack and loading some short ammo. In the winter months i spend alot of time on our short range (10-50 yds) where the hot coffee sits in a warm clubhouse a couple steps away. This time of the year I shoot a lot of 22, and 9mm, Looking for an accurate 44 mag load using 200 gr Lead bullets, doesn't need to be hot as it will only be poking paper out to 50 yds. The load I'm using now with these bullets is W231 with a WLP primer, a very light load, it is very accurate but I'd like to see what your favorite target loads are for the 44 mag using some diffrent powders. BTW, my 44 is a 10" contender with burris 2x scope. I am and I am. I'll check the local outlet for the powder but, if I can't find it where do you suggest I look? How about load data? Wes

http://www.iidbs.com/hitech OR http://www.gibrass.com/ Do NOT use H110/296 load data with it. It's safer to use starting loads for AA#9 as some lots are faster than others. I have "pull down" from M1 carbine loads which is perfectly fine. 2 8lb kegs of it to be exact. I think it worked out to about 8-10 bucks a pound with shipping and HazMat fee. This powder seems to have a steeper burning curve with performance equal to 110/296 up to say the 280 gr weights then it will max out sooner than 110/296 with the heavies. So 110/296 is better with the heavy weight bullets. WC820 doesn't exhibit the loading density problems like H110/296 so it has more headroom with a broader charge weight spread. I fired this powder in new cases and after firing the cases still shined inside! Total burning with only a fleck or so in the barrel. Try this website here for other load data. This is another good group of guys and are not reckless. http://www.castpics.net/index.htm My favorite load for WFN 280's in my shorty 44 is 20 grs. WC820 for about 1380 FPS and very good groups at 25 yds with iron sites. (1.5" or so) 22.5 grs. of H110 runs the same bullet at 1425 FPS. So you see there IS a burning rate difference between these two powders. Regards

Wes, What is the charge weight for that load? I am shootin a 6.0 grain charge of W231, WLP in a 41mag with 210 hard cast bullets. It is mighty accurate and fun to shoot! Those 210 still have a lot of HP out to 50 yards, great plinkin load. I think that i was shootin a 8.0 charge of W231 with a 240 hard cast bullet outta the last 44mag revolver i had but dont quote my on that charge as my memory aint so good anymore....

quote:Yep, I believe it came out to be 6.1 (or2) grains without getting up to look. This is very accurate and fun to shoot, these loads are also accurate in my old ruger .44 auto BUT..they dont have enough poop to kick the action open making my auto a single shot which is fine sitting on the bench. I have some 240gr SWC but I got these 200 gr. that are just great so I'd like to stick with this bullet while they last. Wes
