Ok folks need a little help please! beer
Getting ready to order up a barrel for my T/C G2 in 222rem. (I like the performance of this round).
The barrel will be either 14 or 15" long and I am not sure what would be a better twist rate. Confused
I will be shooting a 40 grn bullet for the most, exclusively. (fits between the 32 in the 22mag and the 52/55 in 22-250)
From reading, I have seen that a recommended twist "UP TO" 63grn is 1:12 and "UP TO" 55grn is 1:14. I have also seen a slower twist for 4100fps of 1:15 and over 4300fps of 1:16.
I know there is no way I will be even close to the 4100 to 4300fps but will I need a slower twist for the 40grn pill? bewildered

Thanks,
Smedley

standard twists 1:14 will work fine for this bullet. I shoot this is my shilen VVA .223 encore and it is consistently a 3/4 MOA.

skb2706,
I am thinking very strongly about OTT! bewildered
I am however looking at Match Grade Machine Works also. I have not ruled out Bullberry but, I am leaning towards OTT.
Do you have a preference? And if so why?

Smedley,
I can highly recommend OTT barrels. They are superbly accurate and top quality in workmanship and finish. You send Mike at OTT several dummy rounds produced by your dies and he produces a chamber to fit your ammunition, not the other way around,-tryng to fit your reloads to someone else's chamber. His prices are less than many of the custom barrel makers out there. The drawbacks are: 1) He has many repeat customers and will not rush a job, so count on at least a four month wait 2) At the present time, he only supplies one-inch bull barrels to the length you specify. He has purchased a CNC machine to cut tapers, but it is not up and running yet. He will use a contoured, unchambered blank if you supply one. If you can live with these conditions, you will not find a better barrel.

smedley,
I have a 16" Contender barrel and it has a 1:14 twist. I am shooting the Hornady 40 V-Max at a muzzle velocity of 3299 (chronographed). This critter is amazingly accurate. At the end of the past summer 2005, I shot 6 groundhogs one evening. The closest one was 194 yards(range finder not estimated) and the longest was 227 yards. Really, you might want to consider the .223 over the 222 cartridge. The .223 brass is no much more available and dirt cheap. Good-luck...BCB

smed- I don't have an OTT barrel ....guys that do swear by them. I am thinking my next one will be from Mike.
But I have a couple Bullberrys, couple of VVCG (no longer around), sseveral factory barrels and now going to have two MGMs. All are excellent shooters. My .221 is a Bullberry full bull CM.

I have 3 of bullberrys barrels all shoot very well and they make 6-7 different contours from bull down. They are very nice people to deal with and about 4 months for a barrel.

Thanks hoeram!
I decided on an OTT. After looking at what he is doing with an EDM and beings a machinist (among other thing) I like the concept and I don't think there is a more accurate way to chamber.
I will be sending you a PM as I am more or less a neighbor. (property in E. WA)

Excellent choice on the OTT. I just got a 14" 222 fluted OTT and I love it. I should be receiving a 5mm Remington Craig conversion in the same configuration except the lug is being cut with a smaller pin diameter for a Armour Alloy frame. The flutes aren't needed but they sure look really nice. Only bad thing about OTT is the wait. But like stated above, it is certainly worth it.

Smedley, good choice on the OTT. I've exchanged emails with him today about a .357 Magnum barrel. I'm planning to get a 10-12 inch matte barrel with flutes. He said that the diameter is .810, rather than one inch. Let us know how it shoots. I hope to get a .223 from Mike next.

What is the delivery on an OTT barrel. You need to post a picture for us when you get it put together.
