Tactical - Target Competition Scope by Tasco
Model: TG624X44DS
6x - 24x High Power
44mm Adjustable Objective

I'm wanting to get a scope that I can mount on my contender handgun barrels... 22mag, 222rem and such. I do alright with handgun scopes but with this kind of scope I can really see what the barrels will do while working up loads. I don't plan to leave it on, just to work up accurate loads. That's why I don't want to spend a lot of cash on one.
I know that Tasco is gone now, but thought maybe someone could tell me something about these scopes. Do they work or are they trash?

Jules, have you looked at the upper end BSA's? I have not tried one myself, but have looked through some for the same purpose you are.

Jeff,
I did at the last gun show I went to but I can't remember what model it was. It was on sale for $89.00. I also looked through a Tasco...I think it was a 6x24 World Class, but not for sure. They both were clear when I got the AO dialed in at the highest power. I always see High power Tasco's and BSA's on ebay for very little money. One of the Elite 4200s would be my choise hands down but I don't want to spend that much for a scope to switch it back and fourth on barrels to work up loads.

Jules,

Did you want it to look like this? I agree with you about needing to see better when working up loads. This is an old Tasco 8x24x40 that is about 20 years old, from when they still made them in Japan. It's still as clear as it was when I bought it. I haven't tried it on the 222 pistol yet, but I did add 8 oz of lead to the forend this morning to keep it out of my face when it goes off. It will probably be Thursday of Friday before I get to try it, and I'll be sure to let you know how it works. The barrel was shooting half MOA with a Burris 3-12, but that was as good as I could see the target.

I did check, and I have about 2 1/2 " of eye relief at 24X, so maybe I'll dodge the black eye.
One last thing, use medium rings to keep the objective lens off the barrel.

If you can find them at gun shows, Tasco are really cheap now that they've gone out of business. I picked up a 3x12 a couple of months ago and am looking for a couple of more. I think the 3x12 was around $35.

Jules,
Midway has the Tasco Mag4 in 6x24 on a closeout sale for $74.74 with a free knife offer. Item #750229. Probably not as good as the tactical, but might work for you need it for.
