Sent an old walnut gunstock blank that was approx. 50 yrs old to James at "Ole Gerogia Jim's" grips and forends. Told him I would like a Herrett grip and target forend for my contender. I told him I wanted to finish the set myself. Got the roughed out set and finally got to them. Put them on my .223 Contender and took it Prairie Dog hunting yesterday. I will have to have more sets from him. Mike Norman, OK

Does he have a website, I have an old walnut stump that I am just about ready to slab out to get a stock made out of. How much did the set cost you? Dennis

Yes he does. I know several people that use his products. He will look at your wood, to see if it will work in his equip. He charges just a little less than normal if you send wood. "Ole Georgia Jim's" grips and forends.

Very nice Mike and good shot. I really like a nice piece of hardwood and I have a few. I'm into this color thing that my wife said it's just a phase i'm going through I believe Jim still has some very nice wood along with some wild lookin laminates

McClura, I looked at the website, but I wondered which forend and grip you had on your pistol, because I like'em. Dennis

The forend is the 2 1/4" wide target style, #45 on his site for 14" barrel, double mount system. The grip is the Herrett grip for right hand shooter and I left the base a little larger than normal for a better rest on the sand bags. I'm going to order the blue set as soon as I get my overtime check. I want to put them on my Stainless Fluted .375JDJ barrel. I think it will be too cool. Mike

A well made wood grip cuts down on recoil every bit as much as the rubber ones do. And there much lighter too I really like the feel of the Herrett style and i'll bet ya'll would to. How bout it Mike?

BTW guys, If you supply your own it makes no difference on price to fit and shape. I don't know how much that is because I use his wood. But if ya buy one off of Jims blanks the price for them wide forends and Wild Thing grips is a little higher because he has to use a special wide piece of wood. This new Herrett style grip is great. I can't believe how much better it feels while shooting. I did a lot of work with files and rasps to make it fit my hand the way my target pistols do. I think it helped stabalize the pistol while shooting on the bench also. On supplying the wood, he only knocks off about $20.00. That is about what he pays for his wood that is used. I told him I would have to have another set soon. I sent James some photos yesterday and he was really impressed on how the wood turned out after the finish was applied. I spent a lot of extra time on the sanding and shaping and taking out all of the scratches and dings. They have about 10 coats of hand rubbed Tung Oil that I use on my wood bows and muzzleloader stocks I make. Thanks for the comments. [ 08-19-2003, 20:01: Message edited by: McClura ]

Just got this set on E-bay this week. Although not advertised as a set from Georgia Jim, sure looks like. Even has the hangar bar. I won't reveal the price, but it was a steal. Jeff
