You guys have infected me. I'm going to sell my 6.5 JDJ SS barrel to get one of these Competitors to try. I spoke to Al yesterday, but still can't decide which caliber? Anyone have a reciever for sale? What cartridge case would burn more efficiently in a 14" barrel? Want to stick to this length to keep it short, and sort of thinking of a brake too? Was looking at a .308 as a parent case for a wildcatt? Was wondering about a bigger parent case but don't want to over do it? What size case do you guys think would be a good max but efficient case? Looking at one in .338 caliber or .375 caliber? Al said he didn't want to do any WSM type cartridges. Was thinking of necking down a .500 S&W case? Appreciate any ideas! Is the nickel finish worth getting? Is their brakes made for each caliber, or a universal all caliber like thing? I see you guys are experienced with this gun, and would like to find out about the bugs or problems or advantages with this Competitor. Noticed that have long barrels? Do they make a rifle stock? Didn't see one in their site? e-mail me at drminak@hotmail.com Thanks!

You talked to the big guy himself!!

They do not offer a rifle stock currently, they have discussed it along with a LARGER version for the WSM's and such.

The reason for the longer barrels is that the combination of the midgrip and the rotary breach makes the gun handle VERY neutral in a 14" barrel. The 16 in a big bore handles quite nice for offhand shooting.

Deadeyedick had a competitor 16", 22-250 with synthetic stock for sale and i believe that he still has it. I will send him an IM to check here if he is still interested in getting rid of it....

I have a very early competitor , yes they were very hard to get at first. I like the gun very much, but sadly the trigger is the worst ive seen.
I havent tried to work it...There may be something that could be done

Happy Shooting

HHI,
Look at the 375/350 I would think that would be nice, and its a simple wildcat.Believe it or not I read some balistics on a 375/308 that were very impresive. Seems like a small case for that bore ... but ????

Good shooting

I am not familar with the original models but the latter ones can be completely adjusted. Give Richard ( of Competitor) a call, they might warranty replace the trigger in your gun.... [Wink]

Anyone interested in a new in box 14" .17 MK IV barrel? Might trade for another barrel. Looking preferably for a higher pressure cartridge, that is hotter than a contender can handle. e-mail me at drminak@hotmail.com if interested

12.9x50.8jdj, any way I can get the info on that .375-08? Trying to stick with the easy to get .308 case if possible. Have a really old SSK flyer, and JD use to convert the Pachmyr Dominator to other chamberings, and the .375-08 was one of them. He said he was getting 2200fps-2300fps, with a 270 grainer. In his brochure, he also showed the contender .375 JDJ doing 2050fps with the 270 grainer, and it has dropped game all sorts of game all over world. Figured the .375-08 should be more than enough, without excess recoil. Getting old I guess, not wanting too much recoil. Looking forward to shooting the .17 MK IV! Less recoil and less powder.

New and first time owner of a Competitor. The first time out with some Rel 7 and 150 Hornady, and picked up range brass in the .308 Win barrel, and it shot 1MOA. Second time out just trying a few different other powders, and it shot 1/2MOA and 3/4MOA. Recoil is mild too, thanks to the brake. Figure with some load development and a better rest, it should do even better! Need to get use to the odd Glock like trigger though? As been said before, a little heavy, but nice and short, and balances very well.
