I have a contender 30-30 barrel 14 inches long that I would like to lengthen so I can use a stock and make it a carbine for my wife to hunt deer with. How does the choate extension attach? Is it permanent?

THE CHOATE EXTENSION IS NO LONGER PRODUCED. THERE STILL MAY BE SOME FLOATING AROUND THOUGH. WHEN YOU SLIDE THE EXTENSION ON YOUR BARREL THERE IS A HOLE ON THE BOTTOM THAT HAS TO BE SPOT WELDED ON THE BARREL TO BE LEGAL. THE ATTACHMENT HAS TO BE PERMANENT. WHEN YOU DO THE SPOT WELD YOU CAN GRIND IT DOWN A LITTLE BELOW THE HOLE AND FILL IT WITH BLACK SILICONE. YOU CAN HARDLY TELL IT WAS WELDED.

Well if I can't get one could I have a muzzle break soldered onto the barrel? What exactly constitutes permanent? How about anyone have a 21 or 23 inch 30-30 barrel for sale?

High temp silver solder, minimum, is what BATF says for AR-15 barrel extensions......no glues or adhesives are acceptable...
