I am considering buying a TC Encore to deer hunt and target shoot. I have read a lot of good and some bad about the TC Encore. I would appreciate some feed back from anyone who has owned one or shot one. Quality, Trigger pull, is this a gun worth buying or would you recomend a different single shot pistol. Please give me your opinion. Thanks

i definately recommend the encore. i have 2, and like them a lot. one frame has a 2lb trigger job from virgin valley. the other was done by me. i just pushed the trigger spring down toward the inside of the frame to weaken it some. works for me so far. the trigger in factory form is definately too heavy for me, but that can be fixed.
another worthy option is the new G2 contender. man it feels great. i love it! it actually feels better in the hand than the encore. still, the encore handles most any caliber you want to shoot, where the contender is kinnda limited. if you reload, there are lot's of good wildcat, powerhouse calibers that can be had in the contender.
personally, i don't think you could go wrong with either choice. it just depends on what caliber you're wanting to shoot. the encore is a little bigger made for high pressure calibers. the contender can't handle the big boys. like (.243, 7-08,.308,30-06,300,mag,etc.). these can be had in the encore though.
i have a G2 contender set up with a 2x7x32 burris scope, redfield 3 ring mount, and factory 14" 30-30 ackley improved barrel. i think it's gonna be my favorite deer getter. although my 15" 7mm08/3x12 burris encore is hard to beat also. i ain't never letting go of either one [Big Grin]

Swede, I have hunted deer with a contender for many years now. I started back before the encore was around so the contender was the only option. If I were starting today I would probably buy the encore over the G2. It will handle all the same calibers except I believe the .22 lr. However you can always get that in a custom barrel if it isn't available from the factory.

I'm not sure the area of the country you live in. So the bigger calibers may or may not be something you want. Either way, the encore would handle anything you want to do for deer.

I like mine though I only have 2 factory barrels plus two from Fox Ridge. One of the reasons I like mine so much is my Fox Ridge Barrels. That is the great thing about the Encore as far as I am concerned. I wanted short stiff barrels for hunting and ordered and got exactly what I wanted though I feel Fox Ridge could do a better job throating their barrels. But their are other barrel makers and they will all try hard to give you what you want. Sean

The only real complaints i have heard about the encore, is the trigger. Most guns today have nasty triggers and like most, it can be fixed. [Wink] I recently received my first encore frame and i just purchased my first encore barrel yesterday. I hope to be shooting it soon. Based on my experience with the contenders, i dont think you can go wrong with the encore....

TC Nut, nice pic!! Your project with that 300 has me loking for a factory 26"er! [Big Grin]

Swede - I have six of the things and have had nothing but good luck with them. I have found the trigger issue to be overstated - I have three Bellm trigger springs that I have not installed because the factory triggers have worked well for me so far. It is my understanding that the factory will clean up the trigger pull if it is a problem. However, I doubt if the work they do will match the magic of either Bellm's or VV's shop. Every factory barrel I have used has been accurate and, as near as I can tell, without major flaw. TC produces an excellent product at a reasonable cost - the customer service has been second to none.

I bought my encore frame with the trigger job already done from VVCG's. So it was never a problem. It is a bit heavier than the contender frame but I don't really feel it's a problem. It is a little different but nothing to worry about & it lets you go where the contender can't. [Smile] [Wink]

I have 2 SS Encore frames and one had a decent trigger pull at a little over 4 lb., the other one had about 3 lp. pull but with so much creep that you had no ideal when it was going to fire, with the Bellm springs and his cd on trigger jobs one is now 1 1/2 lb and the other one I deer hunt with is 2 1/2 lb and there is no felt creep at all, you just feel pressure and then it fires.

My Encore is one sweet shooter. I have done some work on the trigger to make it lighter and less rough. I recommend Mike Bellm's trigger CD. He shows how the average person can work an Encore trigger with a minimum of tools. One of the biggest accuracy improvement I got was when I installed an oversized hinge pin. This takes out the play between the barrel and the frame, kind of like giving a pistol a bedding job. The hinge pin is easy to install and the cost is low. Denzel Roberts make some of the best looking stocks for the Encore (imho). You might want to give these two page a look-see.
