Got it fixed I think I've forgotten how to fix this problem ;-) Took the Contender Carbine out this morning to check sight in for my youngest son's special youth deer hunt this weekend and the blasted hammer won't cock! I have had a bit of trouble with this before, I stoned the locking lugs and it helped although it required a really firm snap of the action to lock the lugs when closing (worked fine last year).....but today.....I pulled the barrel and the frame still won't cock! So, please refresh my CRS stricken memory and HELP! Thanks, Mark [ 11-05-2003, 00:38: Message edited by: GonHuntin ]

Hey Mark; Mine did that a long time ago! Maybe the same thing could be wrong with yours! After a lot of fuming and cussing, I adjusted the trigger over-travel screw, I had to lengthen the travel! I was just too short!

Chuck That was my first thought but I hadn't changed it from last time I used the gun.......the screw that holds the interlock "butterfly" had loosened causing the interlock to drop down and wouldn't allow the lugs to lock up......I pulled the trigger group out, tightened the screw and everything works fine.

Hey Mark, Where is your son getting to hunt this weekend. Is it in one of the Osage Co. hunts? What caliber is he going to shoot? I am letting the son of a friend of mine use my .308 Bellm carbine to try for his first deer this season. He's too short in the arms for any of the full sized rifles I own or his dad has but that T/C carbine makes a dandy stock for a 13 or 14 year old. After I let him sight it in, I almost had to pry it away from him to bring it back home and make sure everything was good and tight. I put it in a small hardcase that looks like it was made to fit a TC carbine and he is in hog heaven getting to shoot a "custom" gun while his brother is having to shoot an off the shelf Savage .270 (I'm not knocking Savages, that is just the way he looks at it). After the way it shot, I am almost sad that I loaned it to him . He has been bugging his dad so much since then that his dad has given in to buying a Contender after the first of the year (HOT DOG, another Contender and hunting addict is born). He went out by Coweta with his dad during the youth only hunt 2 weeks ago but with all of the warm weather, the deer weren't moving much and he didn't see anything. Dennis He drew an either sex tag at Spavinaw. The carbine is a Super 16 in 7-30 waters.....he has killed two deer with it already....it will be a back-up gun for this hunt as he wants to use a Rem. Mod. 7 Youth in 7-08.....at least that what he said last.....he may change his mind....he really likes the little contender carbine.... We didn't do any good during the youth season either.....my oldest son hunted by himself for the first time and he is the only one that saw a deer.....wouldn't you know it.....it was a big buck.....35 yards away for several minutes and the buck never knew he was there!

Mark, The Contender with a carbine stock sure makes a quick handling little gun. I started to put my Super 16 7-30 on tne carbine stock for my friend's son, but I was stupid enough to put a twist in mount on this one barrel and it is a pain in the butt to switch scopes compared to the rest of my barrels. All my other rings are Millet and after I Loctite the lefthand screw, it isn't much trouble to sight back in when I change from rifle to pistol scope. Good luck to your son, if he is lucky he may get a good close look at an elk while you are hunting. I have had them come right down to the shore to drink when I have been fishing the lake in the past (if there any left that haven't been poached).
